Being told your child has life threatening and life long medical complications the moment they are born is not something any parent wants to hear.
This is the reality for Nicole Biddle who gave birth to handsome little Spencer on the 9th January 2022. He came into the world a little early, after Nicole suffered as major placental bleed and Spencer was delivered via emergency C-section.
Despite having all the appropriate medical monitoring, Spencer's conditions were not picked up on any ultrasounds throughout Nicole's pregnancy.
Spencer was born with 2 congenitally related conditions - Tracheoesophageal Fistula & Imperforate anus. The first condition means that Spencer's Trachea (windpipe) & esophagus (into the stomach) were joined. This caused severe breathing difficulties and required emergency surgery within hours of his birth. An Imperforate Anus means that Spencer was born with incorrect bowel formation and he has no anus. He again required surgery to create a stoma for a colostomy bag to be fitted to remove waste from his body.
Since being born Spencer has had numerous surgeries in an attempt to correct the defects. These surgeries have kept Spencer alive, but they have also had ongoing complications and he continues to require more interventions as the issues arise.
Nicole has been incredibly strong as she has had to go through all of this as a solo mum. She has spent most of Spencer's life away from her home town, her family and friends whilst staying at Ronald McDonald House in Townsville and Brisbane. All along Nicole has said that she has gotten the strength from Spencer himself who has battled through all of this with amazing resilience. His smile lights up the whole room and he is the cutest little superhero for his mum.
Please give any amount, small or large, to support Spencer and Nicole so that he can have the medical interventions he needs to live a healthy life.
