My 25 year old daughter Eva is having a mental health crisis and got her first mental illness diagnosis which I don't want to share online for privacy reasons. I have been a single mother since Eva was 1 when her father stopped taking his medication for his schizoaffective disorder which helped him to be fully functional. I have hired 2 lawyers at $3,000 retainer each. The first one in HNL was awful and lied to me about numerous important matters. I will likely have additional legal costs as I continue to fight for Eva to get the care she needs. I am finding out that Hawaii is a terrible state for getting help with mental health! I have tons of other costs associated with not being able to work for more than 1.5 months now plus all the money I am shelling out for doctors outside of our health insurance (who have ended up being unhelpful and even disruptive) and to financially support all the people who are helping me care for Eva including holistic healers. I really am fighting every minute of every day to save my daughter's life and there is not an end in sight at the moment. Hopefully my current good woman lawyer in Hilo will be successful! It has been astounding how inept and even outright dishonest so many "professionals" have been (including the police, psych wing of Hilo hospital and the ER) and how many people have tried to take advantage of the desperate situation I have been in as a mom. I am the only one fully invested and willing to do anything I have to do to save Eva. She is in a paranoid, delusional state of psychosis currently and is not taking her meds and is fighting against me and her other main caregiver which makes it a million times harder to help her.
