My name is Aquelio Vinson and this is my story. I have always wanted to be a physical anthropologist/oral surgeon since I was freshmen in high school. As a student I struggled with history and understanding the importance of it; I remember feeling frustrated and helpless. That was until my anthropology teacher had me stay behind school and explained the importance of history and the importance of anthropology. She explained that anthropology is not only the study of people, but the bridge that allows you to view the world in such a way that permits me in being a better individual in today’s society. It allows me to view the world in a less ethnocentric way and it broadens my knowledge of every culture.
Anthropology has forever changed my attitude towards life and towards every single individual that I come across. It showed me that although we are all Homo sapiens we all have different cultures, cultures that describe who we are as a society. Being able to participate in the Drawkso field school will be another life changing experiences. Emerging myself in yet another beautiful culture will give me the opportunity to tighten up my skills as an academic and aid in my future goal to be a forensic anthropologist/oral surgeon. The opportunity to aid in this field school will be such an enriching phase in my life.
The money I am raising will be used to help pay for my airfare, transportation to and from the site, housing, and food. Anything you can donate means the world to me, whether that be a five dollar gift or a 50 dollar gift. I have worked endless hours for this day to come, the day that I would be given the opportunity to change lives and discover some amazing history about Drawsko in addition to making that much more of an impact to my society; one day at a time.
Thank you so much for donating to my future success as a scholar and I will keep everyone updated on discoveries and research papers that we will publish.
