Aquatic Center for Disabled

Have you ever sat for a long time? It could’ve been a long day at the office, a long car ride or a thirteen hour flight. It could’ve been an extended hospital stay, a long movie marathon or a meeting that took too long. Regardless of where and how long you sat, after a while, don’t you just have to get up and move or you’ll feel that you’ll go crazy?!
Now, take that feeling and imagine if you couldn’t get up and move ever again. You are bound to a chair made of metal and plastic bits with cushions that slowly but surely lose their shape. This is the life of those who live with a disability and are bound to a “comfortable” wheelchair.
Some of us turn away from the boy with Cerebral Palsy, trying to adjust his body into a more comfortable position, giving sympathetic smiles when his face spasms in pain. We offer a passing thought of pity and then silently think to ourselves that it will never happen to us. Then it does.
It’s our coworker who was in a skiing accident and is now forever trapped in the solid grip of straps and the plastic shell of his chair. It’s our niece who was born with CP. It’s you as the car accident that will never happen, does.
We are women who don’t turn away from the pain of those who live with these disabilities, instead we work through a practice called Watsu to help bring movement and relief to those confined. Watsu is a therapy where we use our bodies, massage, and pool of warm water to bring relief to those who can’t get up and stretch their muscles. I can not tell you the relief and joy I see on my client's faces as their bodies finally relax and for a moment, they can enjoy freedom from their chairs.
We have served this loving community for years and have a large clientele due to being the only Watsu practitioners in our area. Our practice is now in danger due to our pool being closed. While other options are available, it would severely cut down the number of people we serve, and how can we choose which clients we take and which are forever stuck in chairs?
Thankfully, three, hard-working women from Wheat Ridge have stepped forward and are offering to lease us land to build our own pool. Please help us raise money to open our own Watsu facility, a healing center, with this we don’t have to leave anyone behind and we can continue to help ease the pain and restriction valued members of our community face. You’re not only helping us build a pool, your helping us rebuild lives, one step at a time.
