The Aquagrom is an ocean conservation fundraiser where local kids swim, climb, and walk along the beaches of Laguna Beach. It is an annual event done every summer, and we have done it 3 times now! This year, we are raising money for the Surfrider Foundation to fight the Oil Drilling Leases.
The federal government has proposed new leases for offshore oil drilling across 1.27 billion acres of US oceans. The leases could begin as soon as 2027 including the entire California coast, the Alaskan coast, the Gulf coast, and the Arctic Ocean. These leases will be set for 30-50 years. Clean, beautiful beaches are essential to our local economy. This will affect thousands of business owners, hotels, restaurants, fisheries, and beachgoers. The oil companies can drill recklessly with very little risk to themselves. The cost gets passed to the public when they mess up. But the marine life pays the ultimate price, and they can’t vote.
We need you! Do you want our beaches to be ruined for good? Do you want climate change to happen faster? Do you want gas prices to rise? All of these things will happen if we don't all join together and fight this plan. Us kids are asking for your help!!!
