Rescue Horse Needs Help Beating Skin Cancer
This is Atlas. He was born at a ranch in Texas where he grew up in a field with other colts and grown stallions. In that field, his brother was killed by a stallion a week before Atlas could be rescued. The mares, including Atlas’s mother, were kept in a field away from view. They were covered in scars and mats.
Atlas was terrified of people, almost completely feral, but even then his beauty and kindness shone through. Someone had hurt him bad enough to traumatize him and his rehabilitation continues almost two years after his rescue.
Now, despite all the trial and tribulations Atlas has faced, the vet discovered skin cancer left untreated by his previous owners. He needs urgent surgery to remove several spots of melanoma. We are working as hard as we can to give Atlas the best life possible, but this development has left us struggling to keep our heads above water.
Every bit of help is appreciated deeper than I can convey here. Atlas is a once-in-a-lifetime horse.
Thank you.
