Help Feline Café Foundation Save More Cats
Donation protected
Since we became our own rescue in March 2020, it has been one of the most rewarding experiences for everyone involved with the Feline Café Foundation. In over two years, we have saved more than a hundred felines and found them their forever homes. But being a cat rescue is not all sunshine and rainbows. For every success story, there are challenges. This work is hard. It can be draining, overwhelming, and heartbreaking, and we have to continuously face the fact that:
We cannot save everyone.
For instance, we were recently contacted about taking on a young feline in need of urgent medical care. She had suffered complications from pregnancy, resulting in mummified kittens in her uterus, and her surgery was estimated to be $3000+. We had to turn her away as we simply do not have the funds to support her. This was the third feline we were contacted about in the past month who needed immediate medical intervention to survive. We were able to help the first two, but we cannot continue paying for these high-cost surgeries. Meanwhile, our waitlist keeps growing for our intake applications. So many felines need our help, but without the resources available, we continuously have to close our intakes and pray that another rescue can save them.
We currently have several cats with special needs in our care, including Bilbo, Loki, and Kobe who are FIV+, and Cleo and Leo, who have FIC. These felines are a strain on our finances and will be harder to adopt. This is a heartbreaking truth, as cats with medical issues are statistically more challenging to find homes for due to the worry of medical costs, which make potential adopters wary. But they deserve a chance just like all our other felines, and we couldn’t just give up on them. Even our cats without special needs can have unexpected medical issues. Foster kitty Potato and Lounge favourite Merlot experienced unforeseen complications with their sterilization surgery, resulting in higher medical bills.
Our community has always been there for us through thick and thin. We will never be able to put into words our love and gratitude for you all. You and the folks of this wonderful city answered our plea for help in June 2021 when we did not know what the future held for FCF. We understand that times are tough, but we cannot hide the fact that right now, we need help. While we run many fundraisers year-round, such as our Sponsorship and Monthly Donor programs, they simply do not provide sufficient resources to cover these high-cost expenses.
Right now, our vet bills are reaching upwards of $15,000. We are creating this GoFundMe with the hopes of raising the money needed to cover these costs, so we can reopen our intakes and save more felines in our community. Every single donation, regardless of size, brings us closer to this goal. If you are able to make a donation or share this fundraiser with friends and family, we would be incredibly grateful. The support of our community carries us through these difficult times, and we would not be able to do this work without you.
