Rachel ❤ 's Sara Hair Donation Fund

A year ago this Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) I received a call telling me that my sister Sara had been diagnosed with breast cancer. It was shocking as she was only 33 years old. Who gets breast cancer at 33?!? It turns out that she has a gene mutation that causes her to be prone to breast cancer.

A year later I look back and see what a difficult journey it was for our family, especially for Sara, her husband and her 3 kids. The year was filled with negative tests (mine, I did not inherit the gene, and my mom, who Sara did not inherit it from- that was a surprise since my mom battled breast cancer 6 years ago), positive tests (my sister Beth and my dad both have the gene mutation), 6 months of chemotherapy and a summer full of radiation therapy for Sara as well as physical therapy, infections and wounds not healing from 3 surgeries.

Through all this she has kept such a great positive attitude. Chemo and radiation did do its job and she is now cancer free! Her body fought hard and is now healing well with no more infections and wounds closing as they should.

Another thing I see as I look back was the wonderfully overwhelming support that Sara received. Friends and family brought her meals, helped her clean and watched her children so she could get rest. So many people were praying for her and spoke words of encouragement. When it came time to lose her hair last December, our dad Ray, and Sara's best friend Jacinda shaved their heads with her to show their support.

Those of you who know me know that I take great pride in my hair. It is long and thick and a beautiful color naturally, so it was no surprised when I was asked if I would give up my hair and be shaving my head with them. Although they were teasing, I did seriously think about it, and I have to admit that my vanity would not permit it! But I did decide that I would spend the next year not cutting it even once and that I would donate it all before the 2015 year ends.

Well, the end of the year is looming in in two days I will be cutting my hair! Sara and I decided that we will donate it to Wigs For Kids, who makes wigs for kids who have suffered hair loss from cancer, alopecia, etc.

As I did research on where to donate the hair, I discovered that it can take up to $1800 as well as the hair to make a wig for a kid. In light of that, I am starting this donation fund in hopes that we can raise enough money in two weeks to give a wig to a kid for Christmas!

Please help us reach our goal, for my sister Sara, for my family, for me because you all love me
