Cassidy's AVM Awareness Danceathon

Hello Family & Friends,
My name is Cassidy Phillips and I would like to take a few minutes of your time to share my life-changing story with you.
On April 30th 2012, I went to my Nana’s house like I would every Monday morning. Breakfast was done and I was playing sock monkey with my brother and sister. All of a sudden, I went to Nana and told her I didn’t feel well. She thought I was faking because I didn’t like school. She told me to use the bathroom. I started to spin because I couldn’t find the bathroom. Nana grabbed my shoulder and took me into the bathroom. I talked to my mom while Nana called 911. Mommy asked me who was with me and I said “Daddy and the lady from the beach”. Nana grabbed the phone from me and talked to Mommy. Nana carried me to the couch. My brother and sister were crying. Nana sat me on the couch and I blacked out.
That’s when it all began……..
The Westfield emergency squad rushed me to Westfield Memorial Hospital. They stabilized me there and did tests to try and find the problem. They narrowed it down but knew I needed more advanced care, so they decided to air-lift me to the Buffalo Children’s Hospital. I took my first helicopter ride all by myself! When I got to the Children’s Hospital they did more tests and decided that I had an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM). I was sent to pediatric ICU. I had many tests and procedures.
It has been over 3 years since my AVM. Recently, I had another surgery and I got really good news that my AVM is still there but the treatment for my AVM worked successfully. I am very thankful to be here right now and will be forever thankful to the medical staff, family and friends for all of their support!!!
Since, I am old enough now to tell my story, I hope that it will help other people who have gone through what I have. In addition to telling my story, I have joined the AVM Awareness Organization of the Greater Buffalo Area to help increase AVM awareness. The AVM Awareness Organization of the Greater Buffalo Area is dedicated to informing the public about the effects of Arteriovenous Malformations (AVM) and is devoted to the support of patients, families, and others affected by an AVM.
To help increase AVM awareness, I am planning a DANCE-a-THON on April 17th, 2016!
Your support is so important to me!!! If you are able to provide a monetary donation, I thank you in advance for your donation! Thank you so much for your support!
