Hi, we are Brittney, Brooklyn and Josalyn. The three daughters of April, we are helping our mother fight the fight of her life against Pancreatic Cancer. Life can deal you some really tough hands at times, but If you know our mother, you know she is not a quitter! “I climbed a mountain and I turned around”- Fleetwood Mac (her favorite song). Our mother is incredibly strong, our rock, our best-friend, and the world’s greatest Grandma.

It was only a few weeks ago her battle began. It started with jaundice, and possible gallstones blocking her bile duct. Once an endoscopy was performed what they thought was pancreatitis was discovered. A temporary stent was placed to help alleviate the pancreatitis by helping the pancreas drain more efficiently. A few days after her pancreatic stent was placed, she was scheduled for a cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal). Again, we were hopeful this would be the solution. A CT later performed showed a mass on her liver and pancreas. On November 19, 2021 a biopsy was performed on the mass of her pancreas measuring 2.9 x 3.2 cm. Our world was turned upside with the devastating diagnosis of Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma. The plan of action as of now, is to shrink the Pancreatic tumor in hopes that she will be a candidate for the Whipple procedure. April’s pancreatic tumor currently encases her SMV Vein (superior mesenteric vein) making it unresectable at this time. The mass on her liver was biopsied at KU Med on December 6th, with negative results. However the doctors have recommended a second biopsy to completely rule out carcinoma, since the liver is so vast and complex. April is scheduled to meet with the pancreatic, kidney and liver specialist at KU Medical Center; December 20th for an additional opinion and more in depth treatment plan. Our mother has made it very clear she is not willing to back down from this fight. April has a husband (Doug), three daughters, six grandchildren to watch grow and a host of other family and friends to fight for.

April is currently working full time (true April fashion), but we are unsure how long she will be able to continue to do so. April will start her first round of Chemotherapy December 15th. As we all know insurance only covers so much, with high deductibles, copays, missed work and travel expenses, the bills are starting to pile up.

Any donations or contributions to help relieve some of the financial burden of this diagnosis, is greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate at this time, please share this and send up some extra prayers for our family.

Cancer may have started the fight, but I will finish it! #AprilStrong
