My name is Ethan Gomes and I am currently a senior on my way to graduation from Huntington Beach High School. My life’s goal is to help the world and the people in it as much as I can while also telling stories through movies. I was caught off guard one day in my English class this year when a representative from a gap year program came to my class to show us a presentation for Global Citizen Year. It seemed like a fantastic opportunity to travel at a young age, meet new people and hear their stories as well as learn their culture. This experience would allow me to grow and mature into a young man while enhancing my education and intelligence at the same time. I will do all sorts of things from community projects all the way to documenting my experience and enlightening my friends and family back home on the vastly beautiful country of Brazil. In addition, I’ll be training as an apprentice in a variety of professions, gaining real world work experience in fields like environmental conservation, education, public health, agriculture and social enterprise. These are powerful opportunities to not only broaden my view of the world but help me prepare for college and a successful life work.

I want to embark on this journey to help other people in need and hopefully bring a little laughter into their life. It will allow me the chance to help others as I help and better myself. I also have found a love for cinema and from what I have learned, different countries have different filming techniques that they use to bring their movies to life, so I think this will help widen my cinematic vision. What it really comes down to is that I want to change people's life and help others smile and be happy. Global Citizen has already granted me a portion of my tuition for this apprenticeship, but I need additional financial support from my family and friends to help meet the final costs for my Gap Year education. I would gratefully appreciate any donation of any size - because no donation is too small - and help me bring some positive change to the world.
