Help Us Rebuild a Church, a School & a Family Home After Hurricane Melissa
We’re entering the next phase of our Hurricane Melissa relief efforts: rebuilding three roofs that are essential to this community — a church, a school, and a family home, all badly damaged by the storm.
These spaces provide safety, stability, learning, worship, and shelter. Without roofs, all three remain unsafe and unusable — affecting children, families, and the wider community.
We are thankful for the £4,000 already raised, and are now seeking a further £3,000 to reach our overall target of £7,000. Your support will help us purchase roofing materials, hire local builders, and restore these vital spaces.
✨ Please donate or share — every contribution truly makes a difference.
Thank you for helping us rebuild hope.
Barrels of Hope for Jamaica: Emergency Relief for Families Affected by Hurricane Melissa
As many of you know, Hurricane Melissa (Category 5) has caused widespread devastation across Jamaica, leaving many families without homes, livelihoods, and loved ones. My heart is heavy for those affected, and like many in the diaspora, I’ve felt the pain of watching from afar — wondering how best to help. When a friend urged me to take action instead of feeling helpless — and then made the first donation — it touched my heart and motivated me to start this initiative.
Hello, my name is Karen Roach, and I lead the Jamaican New Testament Group Online, where we listen to and discuss the Bible in Jamaican Creole. I also have the honour of reading the Scriptures in churches during Black History Month and at the Jamaican Independence Service each year.
The Plan: Barrels of Hope
I am organising an effort to send 7 barrels filled with essential items — food, toiletries, hygiene products, and basic supplies — to trusted church leaders in Jamaica. These leaders will distribute the contents directly to families most in need.
️ Beneficiary Churches:
- Mineral Heights United Church, Clarendon
- Christ Church, Port Antonio
- Golden Grove Church of God of Prophecy, St Ann
- Williamsfield Seventh Day Adventist Church, St Elizabeth
- New Covenant Bible Chapel, Clarendon
- The Diocese of Jamaica & The Cayman Islands, Kingston
Each recipient has been identified as a trusted local partner actively serving families and communities in distress. They will help ensure that aid reaches the most vulnerable. The funds will support community members who have lost their homes and livelihoods, as well as those whose roofs have been severely damaged, including churches and schools.
How You Can Help
Your donation will go towards:
- Purchasing essential items (food, hygiene supplies, etc.)
- Covering shipping and transportation costs for the barrels
- Supporting local distribution efforts through church networks
If you are able, I would be deeply grateful for your support — whether through a donation or by sharing this fundraiser with others in your networks.
Together, we can help rebuild lives, restore hope, and stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Jamaica.
Thank you for your prayers, generosity, and encouragement.
With sincere gratitude,
Karen Roach
