Hola, mi nombre es Mónica, mis amigos me conocen como Monix y nunca pensé que tendría que pedir ayuda de esta manera, pero hoy me encuentro en una situación que no puedo enfrentar sola.

Hace más de un año, tras varios estudios médicos, los doctores descubrieron que mi glándula tiroides había crecido un 200% y que tenía un tumor que se extiende por mi garganta y parte de mi cuello. Me realizaron una resonancia magnética para descartar cáncer, y gracias a Dios, no era maligno. Sin embargo, los médicos fueron claros: debía operarme lo antes posible.

He postergado la cirugía durante 14 meses, principalmente porque no tengo un trabajo permanente que me permita cubrir los gastos mientras me recupero. Tengo una hija que depende de mí, y mi prioridad ha sido asegurar lo básico para ella. Pero el tumor ha seguido creciendo, y los especialistas temían que, si no se extirpaba pronto, pudiera afectar otros órganos o volverse cancerígeno.

Finalmente, este lunes 21 de julio me realizaron la cirugía. Fue un día muy largo y agotador: mi hija y yo estuvimos en el hospital desde las 8 de la mañana hasta las 8 de la noche. Gracias a Dios, todo salió bien. Los médicos removieron completamente la tiroides y el tumor. Pero ahora comienza una nueva etapa: la recuperación. Apenas puedo moverme, y necesito entre 2 a 6 semanas de reposo absoluto, sin poder trabajar ni generar ingresos.

Por eso, con mucha humildad, estoy creando esta campaña. Necesito apoyo para poder cubrir gastos esenciales como renta, comida y servicios básicos durante el tiempo que esté en recuperación. Cualquier aporte, por pequeño que sea, será una gran ayuda en este momento tan difícil.

Hello, my name is Monica Alarcon, and I never imagined I’d be in a position to ask for help like this—but today I truly need it.

Over a year ago, after several medical tests, doctors discovered that my thyroid gland had grown by 200% and that I had a tumor extending through my throat and part of my neck. I underwent an MRI to rule out cancer, and thankfully, it wasn’t malignant. However, my doctors made it clear: I needed surgery as soon as possible.

I postponed the surgery for 14 months because I didn’t have a stable job that would allow me to take time off. I have a daughter who depends on me, and my priority has been to provide for her. But the tumor kept growing, and specialists feared it could start affecting other organs—or worse, become cancerous.

This past Monday, July 21st, I finally had the surgery. It was a very long and emotional day—my daughter and I were at the hospital from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thank God, the procedure went well. The doctors removed both my thyroid and the tumor. But now begins the hard part: recovery. Right now, I can barely move, and I’ll need between 2 to 6 weeks of complete rest, unable to work or earn income.

That’s why, with a humble heart, I’m starting this fundraiser. I need help covering basic expenses like rent, food, and utilities while I recover. Any contribution, no matter how small, would make a huge difference during this difficult time.
