Soy Bárbara, mamá de Matías, gracias por estar leyendo esto.

El pasado 30 de mayo, mi bebé tuvo un accidente con agua hirviendo. Requirió hospitalización inmediata por quemaduras de segundo grado, superficial y profundo, y así nuestros días cambiaron drásticamente.

Nunca imaginé que el proceso sería tan complejo, desde el 30 de mayo hemos estado permanentemente en el hospital mientras Matías recibe atención médica intensiva, cuidados especializados y varias intervenciones en quirófano.

Después de todos estos días, ha mejorado: su cara, cuello y espalda están epitelizando, lo cual nos llena de esperanza. Sin embargo, el tórax y abdomen tienen quemaduras profundas que requieren procedimientos profesionales extendidos.

Debido a sus lesiones, va a quirófano con anestesia general dos veces por semana para realizar curaciones, limpiezas, controles y demás.

En esta primera etapa, Matías ya ha entrado cuatro veces al quirófano.

Gran parte de su hospitalización ha sido en UCI. El tiempo que estaremos en el hospital es incierto. Dependiendo del avance los médicos decidiran si es necesario realizar intervenciones más complejas, como injertos.

Una vez que Matías pueda volver a casa, empezará una larga recuperación. Durante al menos un año necesitará tratamientos cicatrizantes, parches, cremas especiales, ropa adecuada y controles médicos frecuentes.

Matías es un bebé alegre, curioso y lleno de vida. Quienes lo conocen saben cuánto ilumina todo a su alrededor. Verlo atravesar algo tan duro siendo tan chiquito ha sido doloroso y retador, pero también me ha mostrado una fortaleza y una resiliencia inmensa en él.

Matías está rodeado de amor y contención y está recibiendo atención médica especializada en manos de profesionales inmejorables que nos llenan de paz y esperanza, estamos en manos de un equipo médico lleno de profesionalismo y calidez humana.

Contamos con seguro médico, pero la póliza tiene un límite de cobertura. Por la duración de la hospitalización, las intervenciones quirúrgicas que aún faltan y todo el tratamiento posterior, los costos superarán ese límite. La meta de esta campaña se calculó considerando todo esto.

Con humildad y esperanza, acudimos a ustedes con esta campaña de apoyo para Matías y nuestra familia.

Todo lo recaudado será destinado a cubrir los gastos médicos y de recuperación de Matías.

No es fácil escribir esto ni pedir ayuda. Pero hoy entiendo que acompañar a Matías también significa permitirme recibir el apoyo de quienes lo quieren, están pendientes de él y de nosotros, y son parte de esta red que nos sostiene.

On May 30, 2026, my 1-year-and-7-month-old baby hoy severely burned with boiling water. This required immediate hospitalization for second-degree burns, both superficial and deep… and in a matter of seconds, our days changed drastically.

At first, I never imagined the process would become this complex, but since May 30 we have been here at the hospital while Matías receives intensive care, specialized treatment, and several procedures in the operating room.

The burns are in different areas of his body. After these days in the hospital, he has improved a lot: his face, neck, and back are epithelializing, which fills us with hope. However, on his chest and abdomen, he has a deeper burn area that requires especially careful procedures.

Due to his injuries, the doctors have decided that he needs procedures in the operating room under general anesthesia twice a week, approximately every three days, to perform different types of skin dressings, cleanings, check-ups, and other necessary procedures for his recovery and to prevent, as much as possible, further complications. In this first stage, Matías has already entered the operating room four times.

So far, a large part of his hospitalization has been in the ICU, mainly because of the level of monitoring and care he requires, especially after each time he goes into surgery.

The total amount of time we will remain in the hospital is still uncertain. The only thing we know for now is that the minimum stay will be 21 days, which is the time needed to observe how his skin evolves before the doctors decide whether more complex procedures, such as skin grafts, will be necessary.

Even so, this process will not end with hospitalization. Once Matías is able to come home, one difficult stage will end, but another long stage of recovery and skin care will begin. For at least one year, he will need scar treatments, patches, special creams, appropriate clothing, frequent medical check-ups, and complete protection from the sun, to help his skin heal in the best possible way.

Matías is a joyful, curious baby, full of life. Those who know him know how much he lights up everything around him. Seeing him go through something this hard at such a young age has been deeply painful and challenging, but it has also shown me the immense strength and resilience within him.

Thankfully, Matías is surrounded by so much love and support, and he is receiving specialized medical care from extraordinary professionals who fill us with peace and hope. We are in the hands of a medical team full of professionalism and human warmth.

We do have medical insurance, but the policy has a coverage limit. Because of the length of the hospitalization, the surgeries that are still ahead, and all the treatment that will follow, we have done the numbers and the costs will exceed that limit. The goal of this campaign was calculated taking all of this into account.

That is why today, with deep humility and a lot of hope, we are reaching out to you by creating this support campaign for Matías and for us as a family.

All funds raised will go toward covering Matías’ medical and recovery expenses.
