Mi mamá es el tipo de persona que ilumina cualquier lugar al que llega. Venezolana de alma vivaz, ama caminar por la playa cada mañana, preparar café para sus hijos y escuchar con el corazón abierto a quien lo necesite. Su fuerza, humor y cariño la han hecho el pilar de nuestra familia.

Hace poco, durante un chequeo médico de rutina, nos dieron una noticia que nos sacudió el alma: encontraron un tumor. Lo que parecía una operación localizada terminó siendo mucho más grave de lo esperado. El tumor se había expandido al colon, y tuvo que ser intervenida de urgencia. Pasó por terapia intensiva y una recuperación dolorosa y desafiante. Pero aún quedaba mucho por enfrentar.

El 16 de julio, se le realizó una cirugía mayor que incluyó laparoscopia exploratoria, laparotomía media y exenteración posterior (una intervención compleja que afectó recto, sigmoides, útero y anexos). Le practicaron una colostomía y se removió parte del colon. El diagnóstico fue un tumor pélvico de gran tamaño, con dilatación ureteral bilateral. La operación fue extensa, con pérdida significativa de sangre, pero ella ha salido adelante con una fortaleza admirable.

Ahora viene una nueva etapa: estudios adicionales, seguimiento oncológico, quimioterapia, cuidados especiales y una nueva intervención quirúrgica programada. Todo esto representa una carga económica muy difícil de asumir como familia.

My mom is the kind of person who lights up any room she walks into. A vibrant Venezuelan soul, she loves her morning walks by the sea, brewing coffee for her children, and listening with an open heart to anyone in need. Her strength, humor, and warmth have made her the rock of our family.

Not long ago, during a routine check-up, we received news that shook us to the core: a tumor had been found. What we hoped would be a simple surgery turned out to be far more serious. The tumor had spread to her colon, and she had to undergo emergency surgery. She spent days in intensive care, and the recovery has been painful and overwhelming — yet she’s remained strong.

On July 16th, she underwent a major surgery including exploratory laparoscopy, midline laparotomy, and posterior exenteration (a complex procedure affecting the rectum, sigmoid colon, uterus, and surrounding organs). A colostomy was performed, and part of her colon was removed. The diagnosis was a large pelvic tumor with bilateral ureteral dilation. It was a high-risk, long surgery with significant blood loss, but she pulled through with incredible strength.

Now begins a new chapter: further tests, oncological follow-ups, likely chemotherapy, and another surgery scheduled soon. All of this presents a major financial challenge for our family.
