Saludos gente.

We are a group of Puerto Ricans in the diaspora, urgently getting into formation in the wake of Hurricane Fiona. We launch this campaign on the 5 year anniversary of Hurricane Maria, an event that showed us who we were and on whom we could truly depend in times of need.

Fiona has caused catastrophic flooding across all of Puerto Rico. Almost the entire archipelago is without electricity or water. Once again, we find ourselves rushing to respond. Why? Because the corrupt local and federal governments have done nothing in the past five years to make Puerto Ricans safer--in fact, they have made things worse. Llegó el apagón. We are living Deja Vu.

But we are more alert and ready than before. We know what to do. Maria taught us that government institutions and big non-profits will not help and that mutual aid is the bedrock of our moment.

We have been in direct contact with our allies in PR and are following their lead. They have told us the best way to help is by donating directly to the following groups who are already in motion bringing aid to communities. They have asked us to tell you NOT to donate to The Red Cross, Hispanic Federation, or any other such big non-profit. The $$ won’t arrive. The aid won’t either.

We will distribute your donation straight to the groups already doing this work RIGHT NOW:

Saludos gente:

Somos un grupo de puertorriqueñxs de la diáspora, enfilándonos luego del paso del huracán Fiona.

Estamos lanzando esta campaña a cinco años del aniversario del huracán María, un evento que nos enseñó quienes somos y en quien verdaderamente podemos contar en momentos difíciles. Casi todo el archipiélago está sin electricidad y agua.

Nuevamente nos encontramos como locos queriendo responder. ¿Por qué?

Por qué el gobierno de la isla y el federal han fallado los últimos cinco años, hacienda prácticamente nada para mejorar la infraestructura de la isla y mejorar las condiciones de vida de los puertorriqueños. En realidad, las han hecho peor y llegó el apagón y estamos viviendo una nueva pesadilla.

Pero esta vez estamos más alerta que antes. Ahora sabemos que hacer. María nos enseñó:

-Instituciones gubernamentales y grandes organizaciones sin fines de lucro no van a ayudar.

-Nuestros compañeros en la isla saben mejor que nadie a donde enviar recursos.

-La recuperación está en las manos del pueblo de Puerto Rico.

-La ayuda mutua es el fundamento de nuestro movimiento.

Estamos en contacto directo con nuestros aliados en Puerto Rico. Estamos siguiendo sus pautas. Ellos nos han dicho que la mejore manera de ayudar en haciendo donaciones directas a los siguientes grupos que ya están ayudando a las comunidades. Nos han pedido que NO donen a la Cruz Roja, Hispanic Federation, y otras entidades de esta magnitud. La ayuda de ellos no llegará.

Nosotros distribuiremos donaciones directamente a grupos que están trabajando en presente:
