Dear Family and Friends,

We hope this finds you well. Our family is in a desperate time of need, and we are reaching out to you, our loved ones, for support. Thank you for taking your time to read this letter.

As many of you know, Felipe H. Treviño Fernandez, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, is currently in the hospital because he fainted while suffering multiple strokes, which caused a concussion, severe brain injury, multiple injuries to his face, lacerations to his ear, as well a broken shoulder. He was rushed to the emergency room in a clinic in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, where he was initially treated; he was unconscious and unresponsive at the time of his admission. The doctors determined that the injury suffered to his head affected the area of the brain that controls speech and movement. After several hours he woke up, but was not able to speak - and he was incapable of processing any food sustenance.

Our family transferred him to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville, TX where they performed additional studies. The doctors concluded that his multiple strokes generated cumulative effects on his health and cognitive function. Additionally, this can lead to progressive neurological deficits, including difficulties with movement, speech, memory, and other cognitive functions. Presently, they are still performing tests to determine the root cause. It is an ongoing process that will take some time.

Since he was admitted to the hospital in Brownsville, he has made extraordinary progress. Fortunately, he regained consciousness, his hematomas have diminished, and is gradually recuperating his ability to speak and eat. However, he still gets disoriented and is very frail. He has good days that inspire hope, and not so good days with additional setbacks. The doctors have informed us that he will be needing rehabilitation such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

His continuous treatment is essential for his recovery, and it may take anywhere from three months to a year for a full recovery.

Unfortunately, he does not have insurance. This has produced a heavy burden to our family – as our family’s financial circumstance is currently constrained, and we have limited economic capacity. We have made efforts to obtain support from the government and they were able to grant us some relief which helped cover part of the hospital expenses. However, we need to consider the next phase of his treatment.

Therefore, we are humbly reaching out to you for your support and ask you to please consider donating to our cause.

Our goal is to cover the costs for the Inpatient Rehabilitation and Outpatient treatment needed for his therapy. The amount needed to cover his daily expenses for medical treatment would be a total of $1,200 USD per day, which would cover the initial therapy, medicine, and equipment needed.

Your contributions will make a huge impact in his recovery.

Esperamos se encuentren muy bien. Nuestra familia se encuentra en un momento de profunda necesidad, y nos dirigimos a ustedes, nuestros seres queridos, en busca de apoyo. Gracias por tomarse el tiempo de leer esta carta.

Como muchos de ustedes saben, Felipe H. Treviño Fernández, querido esposo, padre, y abuelo, se encuentra actualmente en el hospital ya que sufrió un desvanecimiento generado por embolias múltiples, lo que le causó una conmoción cerebral, lesiones graves en su cráneo, múltiples heridas en la cara, desprendimiento de una oreja, y un hombro fracturado. Fue trasladado de urgencia a una clínica en Matamoros, Tamaulipas donde fue atendido inicialmente; estaba inconsciente y no reaccionaba en el momento de su ingreso. Los médicos determinaron que la lesión que sufrió en la cabeza afectó la parte del cerebro que controla el habla, y aunque se despertó, no era capaz de hablar - y era incapaz de procesar cualquier sustento alimenticio.

Nuestra familia decidió trasladarlo al Valley Baptist Medical Center en Brownsville, TX, donde pudieron realizarle estudios adicionales. Los doctores determinaron que sus embolias múltiples generaron efectos diversos en su salud y su función cognitiva. Adicionalmente, puede llevar a déficits neurológicos progresivos, incluyendo dificultades con el movimiento, el habla, la memoria, y otras funciones cognitivas. Actualmente, siguen realizando estudios para determinar la causa raíz. Es un proceso continuo que llevará tiempo.

Desde que ingresó al hospital en Brownsville ha mostrado mejoras extraordinarias. Afortunadamente, ha recuperado el conocimiento, sus hematomas han disminuido, y poco a poco ha recuperado la capacidad de hablar y comer. Sin embargo, sigue desorientado y muy frágil. Tiene días buenos que nos llenan de esperanza, y días no tan buenos donde hay regresión. Los médicos nos han informado que necesitará rehabilitación física, ocupacional, y logopédica (desarrollo del habla). Su tratamiento continuo es esencial para su recuperación, y una recuperación completa puede tardar entre tres meses a un año.

Desafortunadamente, nuestro Padre no cuenta con seguro de gastos médicos. Esto ha generado una carga inesperada y profundamente pesada para nuestra familia, ya que actualmente nuestras circunstancias financieras están restringidas y tenemos una capacidad económica limitada. Nos hemos esforzado por obtener beneficios del Gobierno, y nos han concedido una ayuda para cubrir una parte de los gastos del hospital. Sin embargo, tenemos que considerar la siguiente fase de su tratamiento.

Por lo tanto, nos dirigimos humildemente a ustedes, familia y amigos, en busca de su apoyo. Les pedimos con el corazón en la mano si pudieran hacer una donación, lo más mínimo que sea, absolutamente todo suma.

Nuestro objetivo es cubrir los costos de la rehabilitación hospitalaria, terapias, medicinas, y equipo para sus necesidades. El costo para su tratamiento de rehabilitación es de $1,200 USD por día.
