La historia de Cris Vargas es de esas historias que te rompen el corazón. Ella es una psicoterapeuta increíblemente talentosa, especializada en Tanatología, ha ayudado a muchas personas y familias en sus procesos de duelo y desarrollo personal. Cris es esa clase de persona, que no ha dudado en no cobrar por su ejercicio profesional, cuando es necesario, con tal de ayudar; sus amigos bromeamos diciendo que tiene su propio "sistema de becas".

Desde hace 9 años Cris está luchando contra la terrible enfermedad de Neuro Lyme Crónico. Esta enfermedad ha devastado su salud, sus relaciones y su trabajo. Es realmente duro y desgarrador verla sufrir año tras año, con un dolor crónico y aplastante, con múltiples síntomas graves. Pero, ella siempre ha dado su mejor cara tratando de cuidarse a sí misma y sobre todo a sus pacientes lo mejor posible.

Últimamente, la enfermedad está más agresiva. No la habíamos visto tan mal desde finales de 2018. Lo más duro es presenciar las afectaciones neurológicas que le impiden trabajar, además del dolor más intenso, que la ha paralizado durante meses. La enfermedad de Lyme ataca todos los sistemas del cuerpo y provoca inflamaciones, entre otras cosas. En su caso, ha causado espondilo artritis y una hernia lumbar, dejándola en la cama la mayor parte del tiempo. Aun así, si se siente mentalmente bien, da terapias desde la cama, lo cual es admirable.

Cris tiene familia, pero por una situación delicada y privada, decidió separarse de ellos hace unos años. Como resultado, el dinero que recibía ha disminuido significativamente. Además de las consecuencias y los retos de vivir con Lyme ahora vemos a nuestra gran amiga con una profunda angustia por el aumento de deudas. Cris depende directamente de su trabajo para sobrevivir, pero los costosos tratamientos y estudios que necesita van en un aumento.

Tenemos la esperanza de que la generosidad de las personas pueda darle un respiro, al menos con sus deudas, para que pueda seguir luchando día con día, por su bienestar y para continuar aportando al mundo lo que sólo ella sabe dar y restar un poco al estrés que empeora su condición significativamente.

De verdad, NO IMPORTA la cantidad que se pueda donar, todo suma y ayuda. Y si económicamente no puedes, tus oraciones y buenas vibras también serán de gran ayuda para que Cris tenga un momento de tregua.

El dinero recaudado será utilizado en lo siguiente:

El estado de cuenta seguirá aumentando, pero también iremos actualizando lo que se está logrando pagar, así como lo que el seguro vaya cubriendo. Lamentablemente, el seguro no está cubriendo cosas que en otros momentos sí habían cubierto, pero se continuará haciendo todos los trámites necesarios para que el seguro pague lo más que se pueda.

Hace tiempo conocí una palabra; “Longanimidad” significa, entereza, fortaleza, serenidad, temple, benignidad, clemencia, magnanimidad, generosidad, del latín, longus – animus, alma grande.

Alma grande : son las palabras que para mí y estoy segura que para muchos representa la persona que es Cris Vargas, una persona entregada a la vida y a sus pacientes a pesar de las circunstancias, es la clase de persona que hace que los días cuenten , es una persona que crea un espacio seguro para cualquiera que no lo tenga o incluso no sepa lo que eso significa, da el extra en cada oportunidad, es imposible no darse cuenta de la pasión y amor que hay por su trabajo y por cada corazón que toca en los procesos que acompaña.

Compasión, empatía, vulnerabilidad y el servicio a los demás es lo que la caracteriza.

“Mi trabajo me ha salvado la vida muchas veces “ la he escuchado decir en repetidas ocasiones, ayudemos a que esto siga siendo posible. La vida empujó a Cris a poder sola, pero esta vez no tiene que ser así, estamos todos.

Cris Vargas’ story is the kind that will break your heart. She is an incredibly talented Psychotherapist who specializes in Thanatology and has helped countless families and individuals with their grief process and personal development. Cris is the type of person who won’t hesitate to provide her services free of charge if needed, just so she can help others. We her friends tease her saying she has her own “grant program”.

For the last 9 years, Cris has been battling against Chronic Neurologic Lyme Disease, a terrible illness that has wreaked havoc on her health, relationships and job. It is heartbreaking watching her suffer year after year, with a chronic and overwhelming pain due to different serious symptoms. But she always takes it in stride, trying to take care of herself but above all, her patients, as best as she possibly can.

Lately though, the illness is more aggressive. We hadn’t seen her this bad since late 2018. The hardest part is watching how it affects her neurologically, making it impossible to work coupled with the intense pain that has paralyzed her for months. Lyme disease attacks all of the body’s systems and causes swelling amongst other things. In her particular case, she now has spondyloarthritis and a lumbar hernia, which leaves her bedridden for the most part. Even so, she feels mentally fine and keeps working from her own bed, which is remarkable.

A few years ago, for personal and delicate reasons, Cris decided to cut ties with her relatives; as such, what little financial support she had has significantly decreased. So on top of the consequences and challenges that come with living with Chronic Lyme disease, our dear friend is now faced with the stress that comes from her financial status and increasing debt. Cris’ livelihood depends completely on her job as a therapist and the costly treatments and tests she requires keep adding up.

We are hoping that people’s generosity can give her some respite as far as her debt goes, so she can continue working on her wellbeing and providing the world with what she does best and relieve some of her stress which worsens her condition significantly.

Every donation adds up, however small it may seem! And if you can’t donate for now, your prayers and good energy will also be of great help for Cris to catch a break.

The funds raised will be spent as follows:

- Genomic testing: this test determines the compatibility of all types of drugs and supplements in order to understand why her pain can’t be alleviated. The lab that runs this test is called NOVGENIC and it costs $11,450 mxn.

- Mycotoxin test: this test detects the presence of mycotoxins, which could be the reason why she is not in remission. This test along with others needed by IGENEX and LABCORP add up to $59,956.46 mxn.

- 10 physiotherapy and osteopathy sessions to reduce the swelling with a cost of $12,579.31 mxn.

- Cervical spine and head MRIs and EEGs.

-Sleep deprived EEG and some blood tests with a total cost of $53,681 mxn.

- Medical fees that add up to $7,900 mxn to date.

- Medicine and supplements: in the last 6 months, the total amount spent is approximately $62,501.58 mxn.

- Health insurance renewal: this year the renewal cost is calculated at $90,000 mxn.

These bills will keep adding up, but we will update everyone with the payments we’ll be able to make as well as those that will be covered by insurance. Unfortunately, her provider isn’t covering things it used to cover in the past, but we will continue fighting so her insurance covers as many of the costs as possible.

Up to now, the total amount needed is $298,068.35 mxn.

Magna + animus.

A while back I learned a new word: magnanimity. It means composure, strength, serenity, level-headedness, kindness, leniency, generosity, from the latin words magna – big and animus – soul: big soul, the virtue of being great of mind and heart.

Big soul: two words that to me, and I’m sure to many of us, represent who Cris Vargas is.

Someone devoted to life and her patients, regardless of her circumstances. She is the kind of person who makes days matter, who will create a safe environment for anyone who needs it, going that extra mile whenever she can. It is impossible not to notice how passionate she is about her job and how much she loves each heart she touches through her work.

Compassion, empathy, vulnerability and serving others is what distinguishes her from the rest. “My job has saved my life many times” I’ve heard her say on many occasions.

Let’s help her so this can still be possible. Life has made Cris manage on her own, but this time it doesn’t have to be this way, we’re all with her.
