Apolonia Krogh’s Road to Recovery
Spende geschützt
Hello Everyone, My name is Amanda and I am starting this page on behalf of Apolonia (Sonia) Krogh. She is someone who has been like family to me for years and I am asking for you to take the time to read her journey and consider supporting her and her family during this season of recovery back to health.
In October 2021 after experiencing intense dizziness and other concerning symptoms, Apolonia went to the emergency room and after several tests was diagnosed with a Meningioma (brain tumor). Apolonia had follow up testing and appointments after this ER visit. She was told she would need surgery to remove the tumor. Despite continuing to experience symptoms from the tumor, she continued to work full-time while waiting for her surgery date that was pushed out two months due to COVID-19 and the lack of beds available for her recovery following surgery. Apolonia has stayed strong in her faith throughout the past several months, praying that God had a plan for how things were unfolding. She was able to have her surgery on January 18, 2022 to remove the Meningioma. Her children waited for updates throughout the day, as the surgeon initially thought it would be an 8 hour operation; almost 12 hours later her children received the call that there were a few additional golf ball sized tumors encapsulated on her brain stem that did not initially show on the scans prior to surgery. The surgeons felt it was successful but were unable to remove all of the tumors in her brain. She has been in the hospital recovering since and was able to move to a transitional care unit today (1/26/22). Apolonia is still experiencing side effects from the surgery, despite her determination to heal as quickly as possible. After the surgery, her vision was affected and she still cannot see clearly. Her right eye is not moving to the right giving her double vision. The surgeon said this will likely improve in the next 3-6 months. Although the tumor came back as non-cancerous, continued monitoring and MRI will be needed to ensure the tumor doesn’t start to grow back and radiation may need to be pursued. Apolonia is a strong, faithful woman eager to gain back her full health. She will participate in physical therapy while at the transitional care unit over, possibly, the next several weeks. Apolonia’s daughter, Kathryn, has driven up to the Twin Cities to be with her daily while in the hospital as only one visitor was allowed during that stay. Her other children are now able to see her as well and will be visiting her daily during her ongoing recovery at the transitional care facility, also in the Twin Cities. Despite planning and having insurance, the costs of travel and medical bills are adding up quickly. Apolonia planned for this as much as possible by continuing to work up until the surgery. Apolonia and the Krogh siblings are such giving, kind, caring people. I would ask that if you are able to help support Apolonia and her family during this time to please donate to this Go Fund Me page to help ease the burden of some of these expenses. We are all thankful that this surgery was able to happen and that Apolonia is on the road to recovery and health. Please consider a donation to this wonderful woman and her family. Thank you in advance for your kindness!!
