Hi! This beautiful little boy is my son Apollo. He and his cousin we’re riding their bikes with family when they stopped at a crosswalk at the corner of Birch and 4th in midtown Coeur d’Alene. The traffic looked to have stopped and the boys began to cross.

(03/17/24 6:37 pm just after leaving Midtown Safeway)

At 6:51 pm a vehicle in the farthest lane was traveling at 35mph through the 25mph zone and struck the two boys at full speed before the driver reacted, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

I ran to my sons side.. he looked like a little packing peanut curled up in the middle of the road. And when I got to his side I thought he was gone.. I couldn’t tell if he was breathing, his mouth was open, and his eyes were staring straight ahead.
After what felt like way too long, he began to cry, which was honestly very much what was needed. It was good to hear that he was breathing and feeling and still very much with us.

The driver’s BAC was above the legal limit and he was arrested at the scene.

For myself, I feel as though my ‘breakdown moment’ is still coming. The moment I begin to think about my son, our family, the countless ways in which this could have ended up so much more tragically horrendous; I feel the tears welling up however I feel as though I can’t cry just yet.

We’re a paycheck to paycheck family, not that you want to hear about our finances but this is a GoFundMe and I feel it’s only right to share why there’s a need. Mom and dad both work full time, and we always just have enough to squeak by, sometimes not quite.

We’re missing work while he can’t be in school, and it’s going to mean additional childcare when we can get back into the swing of things. Mainly we’re just as shocked as most people are when an emergency of this magnitude hits. And like most people, we are not in a good position to be taking any time away from work to be able to adequately handle it. And I know personally, It’d be nice to just have that time to break down.

More than anything, I’m hoping to help Apollo in his recovery by providing a stress free environment at home, and celebrate in his recovery by providing comforts, fun, and peace of mind as he heals more and more.
