Hello! If you don't know me, I'm Apollo, I'm a trans animation student, and I'm raising money to help pay for my top surgery. As an international student in Canada, I'm not covered by insurance to do this, so I've decided to go the private route, which is predictably very expensive: the surgeon I'm likely going with estimated the cost to be CAD 10650-12650, plus tax, excluding any other appointment or care costs. Living on minimum wage and paying my own bills, saving up that sort of money is hard, so every little bit helps immensely.
I came out as trans 6 years ago, and while I have been living unapologetically as myself ever since, I have been unable to take the necessary steps towards my transition due to financial restrictions and moving for university (waiting lists to transition in the UK, where I'm from, often span over 4 years). Now, almost exactly a month before my 20th birthday, I decided to take the leap I've been scared to for so long and start actively raising money towards my transition.
I’ve been contemplating starting a gofundme for a while, even though I’ve been a bit self conscious and didn’t want to be judged for asking for help. But at the end of the day, there's nothing wrong with asking for help when you need it, so here I am. Again, every little bit helps, and I'm going into this free of any expectations on anyone: whether you share, donate $1, $10, or $50, whether I exceed my goal or never get to it, any show of support means so much to me and I am eternally grateful for the acceptance I already have from my friends, family, and followers. You guys are the best. Thank you for reading, sharing, and donating!
If you want a little something in return for your donation, I'm an animation student, and would be happy to doodle you something if you show me proof of payment! Reach out to me on instagram @apollinares!
And if you'd like to read up on what top surgery is, here's a pretty comprehensive resource: https://www.topsurgery.net/procedures/double-incision-top-surgery.htm
