Apollo Equestrian Recovery Fund
Donation protected
Hello all!
Several people have asked about a GoFundMe to help the Apollo Equestrian and Kayenta Equestrian horses and people during the evacuation for the Alexander Mountain fire, so I’ve set one up.
I was reluctant to pick what would feel like a random number while we were gone- the horses returned home yesterday so I now feel like I know what the financial impact has been.
This is the amount that would cover the expenses of two weeks of down time so that I can make sure the horses and people who depend on me keep getting everything they need. Callie, one of my lesson horses, also sustained an injury during the trailer ride home that, while not life-threatening, will mean she is out of lessons for a while and will require some additional vet care, so there is an additional need to cover her expenses.
It was an exhausting week- our horses are not used to living in stalls- a lifestyle which poses a very different set of risks compared to our horses’ usual paddock living. Katie Ward (who owns Kayenta) and I spent every night at the evacuation facility to provide around-the-clock monitoring and care- I think in the week we were there I drove off property three times. We are incredibly grateful to the people of our community that sent words of support, donated their time or purchased supplies for us. It means more than I can articulate!
There will be a gradual ramping up back to usual activities- I have not opened scheduling for the remainder of August yet but I will soon, once I know all the horses are properly settled home. We have been through a lot and need some time to recover.
