Abby's Cancer Journey

I’d like to tell you a story about someone who is truly everyone’s best friend: Abigail (Abby) Todey.

I first met Abby growing up playing OMGHA hockey and attending Saint Vincent de Paul church. Anyone who knows her knows that Abby lights up every room she walks into. At Osseo Senior High, she was everywhere—playing Osseo Park Center Hockey, competing in tennis, and pouring her creativity into every art class the school had to offer.

After graduating in 2021, Abby followed in her parents’ and sister’s footsteps at the University of Wisconsin–Stout. There, she majored in Industrial Design, captained the women’s club hockey team, and even picked up a new passion: lacrosse—eventually captaining the Division III women’s team. She graduated this past May, ready to launch her career in Wisconsin and take on the world.

But this is where Abby’s story takes an unexpected turn.

Just weeks into her new chapter, Abby began struggling with her breathing and vision. After returning home to Maple Grove over Labor Day weekend for doctor visits, scans, and tests, she received life-changing news: Abby has non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a form of blood cancer that begins in the lymphocytes—cells that are part of the immune system.

Unfortunately, cancer is not new to the Todey family. Her father, Michael, fought stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Her mother, Tammy, battled breast cancer. And her sister, Sarah, has faced Hodgkin’s lymphoma twice in just the past two years. Today, Sarah is thankfully cancer-free but still undergoing treatments for recovery and prevention. Through it all, the Todeys have shown what it means to be fighters—resilient, strong, and compassionate, even when no one sees the battles they’re fighting behind closed doors.

Now, it’s Abby’s turn to fight—and to win.

Abby’s treatment plan includes six rounds of intensive chemotherapy, each requiring weeklong hospital stays. This will leave her immunocompromised throughout the winter. She has had to step away from her post-grad job and move back to Minnesota to focus entirely on healing. As you can imagine, the medical expenses and the challenges of stepping away from work add tremendous stress to an already difficult journey.

Here’s where we can all come in.

Abby is the kind of person who shows up for everyone—with kindness, with laughter, and with love. Now, it’s our chance to show up for her. Whether through a donation, a prayer, or even a kind message, your support will make a real difference for Abby and her family during this fight.

Abby is a beautiful soul inside and out—and anyone who knows her knows she will show cancer just how tough she is. Let’s rally around her and remind her she’s not fighting alone.

Thank you for your generosity, love, and prayers. ❤️
