A Home For Melanie

Donation protected
UPDATE: We want to build a home for Melanie! We are asking for your help to raise $90,000 to put toward building a wheelchair accessible home at Beulah Camp in Brown’s Flat. We will be using Melanie’s existing lot, but the home will need to be rebuilt from the ground up. This is a large task, but we are planning to use volunteer labour to keep costs down. Over $2,000.00 was raised through the previous gofundme page and all money raised through this link will be added to that account.

We are hoping to start the build as soon as we have enough funds, so your contribution is greatly appreciated. This building project will be completed in phases and accomplished through a collaboration of many individuals, churches, and groups. We invite you to be a part of it!

Melanie is a beloved mother and friend. She continues to be an encouragement to others as she walks with God through this unexpected challenge of rebuilding her life.  Wheelchair accessible housing is extremely limited in Saint John, and Beulah Camp can provide Melanie with a safe and caring community.

MELANIE'S STORY: It has been a long journey for Melanie and she continues to demonstrate her trust in God. She has been an example of faith and an encouragement for many despite suddenly losing her mobility. At the end of December 2020 and into early January 2021, she began limping. Soon this started affecting her daily activities. She eventually lost all sensation in her feet and legs. Melanie was admitted to the hospital and underwent many tests to determine what was wrong.

By February, she was learning to use a walker and was still without a diagnosis. Medication was tried with no success.

In April her conditioned worsened and she was admitted to the hospital. There she was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis. She underwent treatments and they were unsuccessful. By this time Melanie was in a wheelchair.

At the beginning of August, Melanie was transferred from the Saint John Regional Hospital to the Stan Cassidy Rehabilitation Centre in Fredericton. There she learned how to use her wheelchair and live independently. She was released from Stan Cassidy at the end of October.

Melanie was unable to secure a wheelchair accessible apartment in Saint John upon her release because of limited available housing in the city. Praise the Lord that she was able to secure a cottage for temporary housing while she waits for an NB Housing unit to become available.  By building a home on her lot at Beulah Camp, we hope to bless her with a safe and permanent place to live that will meet her needs into the future.
