Hi, my name is Mia Lopez-Oña. I am a recent graduate from the Trinity School in New York City heading to college in August. Following my successful efforts to renovate a school in El Salvador in 2022 and Guatemala in 2023 and 2024, I am trying to raise $25,000+ to fund a school makeover in Medellín, Colombia, led by the non-profit organization Glasswing International. My family has been involved in helping Glasswing for over fourteen years, and I have personally been involved with the organization since 2022 when I first funded a school makeover. In the past three years, we have impacted the lives of more than 500 children by completing these school makeovers, and I hope to be able to impact the lives of many more children in even greater ways.

Glasswing International is a non-profit organization founded in 2007 based in El Salvador. It strives to combat the hindered access to education and health needs in Latin America due to poverty, violence, overcrowding, and inadequate infrastructure. Their work targets children and families and provides them with a safer and more dynamic atmosphere to pursue their interests and receive an education. They assist communities in several ways, including forming after-school programs, creating community schools, and engaging in extreme school makeovers. They also invest in clinics and hospitals to help teens, youth, and adults improve their physical, mental, and emotional health. Since its founding, the work of Glasswing has impacted more than 7.8 million lives, and the numbers grow exponentially every year.

The entirety of the funds raised would be used to makeover an underprivileged school in Colombia in August. I will be bringing volunteers to the school to finish up the renovation and see it with my own eyes. The makeover includes significant infrastructure repairs, as the school experienced a flood in 2024 that caused the school to temporarily shut down. Despite the students returning to classes, the conditions of their learning environment require improvement.

Below you can find a report of the school makeover which I funded last year. Additionally, attached is a more specific description of the school and community around it. Hopefully, we can have an even greater impact this year.
