Hi everyone, my name is Nancy.
I'm raising funds for myself, my family and the fellow tenants impacted by a fire in our apartment building on May 23, 2022. The fire took place in the early morning, around 7 am, while most were sleeping. Many ran out of the building barefoot with whatever clothes they had slept in. The building is now boarded up, and we were all told to vacate. This was a horrifying and traumatic life-changing event that none of us were ever prepared for.
My family and I have been living here for most of my life. They've lived here for over 25 years, and it is hard to see my parent's memories and my memories disintegrate. I work overseas, and I am glad I was home when this incident occurred; my parents are over 60, and I don't know how they would've survived if they had experienced this alone.
The RedCross placed us in a hotel for a few days, but we need a proper place to live. We have to replace many items destroyed by the fire and water damage. We were given some time afterward to grab items from the apartment, but you cant grab 20+ years worth of memories in a matter of minutes. I am blessed that my family was not injured, and our pets are safe too.
I am fortunate to have an extended network of thoughtful and generous family, friends, comrades, fellow travelers, etc. I want to share that abundance with my family and fellow tenants. All of whom are excellent human beings and deserve more than they currently have.
Thank you all very much for your kind words of support and love. It means more than the world to us.
