As the owner of a cleaning business, I believe that it’s the people behind the stories that truly matter. Recently, I received a call from Lindsey Hanna, who was seeking assistance in cleaning her grandmother’s house so her grandmother—a beloved family matriarch—could return home from long-term care.

When I visited the house, I was deeply moved and left in tears. The condition of her grandmother, Nancy Richmond’s home, was heartbreaking and simply not safe enough for her to come back to. Lindsey is tirelessly working to be able to rent a safe, welcoming apartment where Nancy can regain her independence and comfort. Her goal is to bring in the necessary support staff to ensure Nancy’s health and well-being, and to give her a place where she truly feels at home.

My grandmother is not doing very well. She is in a very bad situation that unfortunately I cannot fix. She is not doing well physically due to the fact that she had a fall last year that she didn’t fully recover from. She did come home after a hospital stay and rehab, but in a short period of time, her son that was supposed to care for her fell back into drugs. She was not only severely neglected, but was stolen from and taken advantage to the fullest. Her basic needs were almost never met. She was taken to the hospital for care due to the decline of her health. She is in assisted living for the time being, but we can’t afford to keep her there and keep her house running. She also needs more care than what she is able to receive where she is. She asked to go home but we are not able to do that at this time due to the condition of the home and the safety issues surrounding it. Her house has become very unsafe for her due to the condition and the uncertainty of when this person will leave, as it has become a squatter situation. I’m asking for help as we have exhausted all options legally and financially. She is at risk of loosing her current spot and her house. I would love to be able to get her in a different environment that she feels happy in, and overall safe in while we wait for other things to fall into place. She also is not able to care for herself in almost all areas. She needs help and care through most of her day. It would be amazing to be able to get her nursing and physical therapy at the level she needs.
