Apache's TPLO surgery & complications

Donation protected
UPDATE 5/9/2024
Apache tore his other ACL 2 months ago (March 9)... I have been trying to get his TPLO surgery scheduled with his orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Mountain, but the clinic he had his surgery at for his 1st surgery on his other ACL has refused to allow Apache to have his surgery there. I finally got a new clinic and surgery date for Apache and it is May 22. I am still paying off the 1st surgery and the months of recovery (including the surgery to take out the hardware...) on my credit cards. Many of you know I also rescued a tiny French Bulldog who was very sick and who has hydrocephalus in February. My life the past year has just been a barrage of vet visits, specialists and surgeries (all dogs). So I am asking again for any help, no matter how small, to help with Apache's surgery cost. Hopefully, now that we went through everything before with the first surgery, things will go smoother as we know what to expect and how to handle his recovery and such. His surgery will cost between 3k and 5k but I do not know the exact cost yet (I'm waiting to hear on this). Thankfully dogs only tear their 2 ACLS so after this one he should be good to go (fingers and toes crossed!!!) I, of course, will keep the new fundraiser updated. Thank you all so much!!!

Hi. On Aug 11, 2023 Apache had TPLO surgery. He is 4 yrs old and a very big boy at 105 pounds. He bled after surgery for 3 days which was concerning, but then he seemed like he was healing. A few days later his surgery site swelled up a lot and he started leaking a ton of bloody tinged fluid from his incision site. I contacted the clinic where he had his surgery (which isn't my regular vet because my regular vet does not do Ortho surgeries) and was told it was normal. The next day he was still leaking so much fluid and the pressure from the fluid was pulling on his staples... I was told once again it was "normal" so it was then I started taking photos of his incision and the changes of it. I sent the photos to my regular vet who prescribed him antibiotics and told me to ask to see the Ortho right away... I did send them to the clinic asking them to show the Ortho vet who did his TPLO. The Ortho vet asked for me to bring him in the next day, which I did. He drained some of the fluid, had to add more staples and sent the fluid off to be cultured... Apache has since had more and more complications with his surgery site and his leg is not healing. To top it off, he finally got his staples removed (3 weeks after surgery) but he is having to have his incision bandaged because of the fluid still coming from his leg. I have been asking for a wrap to cover the bandage and surgery site but still have not gotten one... His bandage gets saturated with fluid and finally yesterday it fell off while I was at work and he was able to eat it - which he did. I am now on poop watch hoping he doesn't have a blockage. If he does not pass the bandages, he will have to have blockage surgery. He doesn't use his surgery leg (it's been 3 1/2 weeks since surgery) but when he tries his leg is snapping like he is double jointed so the Ortho vet wants to sedate him for more xrays Friday. Meanwhile his incision is separating now at one section so he has been prescribed a new antibiotic that is $171.00. Every week I am shelling out hundreds of dollars on top of the $3400 for the initial surgery (I maxed out my care credit card for it). Every single dollar I make is going to Apache and I do not know how I'm going to cover my normal bills let alone all of these vet bills. I applied for financial assistance and grants but was denied. I am asking for help because there is no end in sight for Apache and his complications and the Ortho vet mentioned another surgery to remove the plate and screws he got (TPLO). I am including photos of the regression of his incision and surgery site. Apache is my baby and it's so upsetting to feel so helpless with all of this. I will do whatever is necessary for him to heal and be healthy again.
