My partner (Steven) recently got very sick.
We had only just started moving forward in life with our 4 young children, Lucas age, 7 today than ivy aged 4 this December and Sienna-rose aged 2 than there is Scarlett aged just 1.
We were just starting out own handyman business this year before everything just went sour really quickly, we were really loving it and we were getting quite busy and always had work booked up sometimes two weeks in advance, it was so great, but then my partner (Steven) started feeling very flat, and started experiencing headaches and fatigue and just not feeling right.
On the 5th September everything turn up side down completely......
That day I (Courteney) had to call ambulance 3 times in that one day, the first time they took him to Armadale hospital but was released a few hours later with a diagnosis of an ear infection and that's it, then the second time round later the afternoon I called them again and they said that's it's most likely influenza and took him again to Armadale hospital, I had a call from the police a few hours later saying that they had come across Steven walking on the wrong side of the highway obviously trying to get home, but Steven couldn't remember where he actually lived and really had no idea what was even happening, so in other words he was extremely delusional and confused, so I went and picked Steven up from where the police were waiting with him which was 3 houses from the Armadale hospital on southwestern Highway, I was very confused myself as the way he was when I got there, but the police were trying to reassure me and saying he is probably just tired and needs to go home to bed.
I took him home and I put him to bed, he slept that entire day basically as I had to go to work on my own as he was ro sick,
I come home late afternoon and he was still in bed, he had attempted to go to the bathroom once or twice but had completed missed, that's what made me think something is not quite right....
About an hour past and I was trying to get all the kids asleep, and then I heard voices and yelling, that was Steven talking and arguing with someone but no one was in the room with him, he was hallucinating quite bad, I have never seen anything like this before in my entire life......
so I called ambulance again and I had to tell them to get the police to help to as I knew it wasn't my Steven anymore at that stage..... I knew something was really wrong then
This time they took him to Fiona Stanley hospital
Early next morning I got a call from the hospital
The worst moment of my life........
They told me he has meningitis (bleed on his brain) and septic golden staph in his blood.
My entire life just came crashing down
He has now since had a double bypass and has a pacemaker now and has had multiple surgeries on both knees, both ankles, left knuckle and left hip..... He is still in hospital as we speak
He was kept in ICU for over two weeks, he is now in a ward but not out of the woods yet
I have been financially struggling and mentally and physically struggling to, it's been extremely hard and such an emotional experience that no one should ever have to go through
I was told he had a 50% chance of living..... That's the worst thing to hear I believe.
I had to give up our business and sell some of our tools just to be able to manage for a few days, then personal problems on top such as real-estate needed to do an inspection of our home but I'm on my own with 4 young children and yes I have to say the house was a bit of a mess, I just couldn't keep on top of everything and I still can't till this day
Steven was in ICU when our second youngest turned 2 and missed her first proper walk, and our oldest boys birthday is today and his dad is in hospital still and not able to walk yet
And now I'm noticing Christmas is only around the corner, can this be any harder.......
