Hello friends,
This is Kona, a one-year-old rescued Goldendoodle, and she has a broken leg.
I rescued her in October 2025 from a family who could no longer keep her and didn't want to have to surrender her to a shelter.
Kona is about a year old and LOVES people. She also loves jumping like a kangaroo when she's excited. (We've been working on this, but she insists that she's a kangaroo.) A few days ago, she ran inside from the backyard holding her back leg up. Her leg is loose and floppy. I imagine she must have jumped and landed wrong while in the backyard. The vet thinks it's fractured. We are waiting for X-rays right now. (UPDATE: Confirmed fractured.)
We are sitting in the vet's office and I'm trying not to panic. A few months after Kona joined our family, our other dog, Phoebe, unexpectedly developed a huge internal infection. One vet said we had to put her down, but she's only five and is my son's beloved dog. A second opinion resulted in a very expensive surgery that saved her life, but I'm still paying high monthly payments.
As a teacher, the only income earner and provider for my son, and someone who has had to represent myself in a high-stress custody dispute for several years, money has been extremely tight. I've been considering bankruptcy, loans to pay off high interest credit cards (taken out to raise my son on my own while in school), and anything else I can think of.
I made a GoFundMe recently, before my birthday, requesting support with pet-related needs, but it received no donations. I know everyone is struggling, but I don't know what else to do, so I thought I'd try once more. I've already maxed out two pet credit lines.
UPDATE: I was able to get a payment plan, so Kona is home and healing. Because of my expenses and debts, your support is still greatly appreciated because I still don't know how I'm going to make these payments.
Every little bit helps. Thank you so much for reading, and please share.
