Anything Helps These Flood Victims
Donation protected
My name is Alyssa from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This GoFundMe is about a family that means a lot to me - it is my boyfriends mom (Kimmie), step-dad (Jay), and brother (Gage). Luckily, my boyfriend is able to stay with me during this time, but the rest of his family have not been so fortunate.
During the flash flood that occurred in Nova Scotia July 21-22nd, this family was living in the bottom floor of an apartment building at 31 River Lane in Bedford. Luckily the son (Gage) was home during the storm, and was able to salvage some items by placing them higher up in the apartment. Mom and dad were not able to rescue him and their family cat from the unit until close to midnight with help from a firetruck. They were able to stay with a family member, but they currently do have have room to house them any longer.
When they were finally allowed to gather and document items in their unit, they were told by the landlord that everything, including damaged items and furniture, must be removed from the unit immediately. They have been tirelessly working the past 3 days to empty an entire apartment unit with no time in sight for when or if they will ever be able to return. With the current floor and wall damage, it is better they find a new home.
My goal is to find some help to place them in something temporarily while they search for a new home. They are all sleeping on a few sheets on the floor right now.
This family is such good people, and they need a break. They would give the shirts off their back for anyone, but this experience has both broken them, and made things so tough, in ways that it hasn't been in years. The mom (Kimmie) is a squamous cell carcinoma cancer survivor, and has only been in remission for 4 years now. Her odds were super low, but they all made it through as a family, and came out stronger.
All I want now is for this family to get some good out of this horrible situation.
All funds will be directly sent to the family for use in immediate housing until they can find a forever home or are able to move back into their flooded home.
Update: the family has just been informed their insurance is denying their claim so they are on their own until government funding comes in, and that could be 4 to 6 months. Now, more than ever, funding is needed and appreciated.
