A STYLISH AFRO-SURREALIST SCI-FI THRILLER HAS LANDED
My intention is to BROADEN the TROPES and representation that we see within BLACK BRITISH FILMS and solidify us within the SCI-FI GENRE.

Hi, my name is Takíyah and I’m an actor, writer, director looking for £3,500 funding for my next short film.
The film has acquired some funding already but we are looking for additional to pay for distribution costs, and any additional costs on set (mainly props + costumes).
Thank you so much for helping out on my previous film ‘The Fate of Miles Zinc’ and after the success of it (raising over £300 and garnering over 8,000 views on YouTube) we are going bigger and better with this one!!
ABOUT THE FILM:
GENRE - SCI-FI, Afro-surrealist thriller (20-25 minutes)
SYNOPSIS - In the midst of an alien invasion, a stranger visits the Divine family and warns that if they don’t confess to a secret she will return to kill them all. In attempting to uncover it, Kyra finds truths far worse than her imagination about her family while aliens threaten her birthday party.
THEMES - Are we straying too far from what is natural & human in the pursuit of advancing civilisation thus becoming a culture that isn’t advancing but is reversing - eating itself?
The film acts as an allegory for today’s world in regards to AI and AGI. It asks the question whether the advancement of technology in the pursuit of bettering humanity is safe or whether it is ultimately harming humanity and are we losing the essence of what it means to be human in the name of evolution.
INSPIRATION/STYLE - The Twilight Zone (TV Series) (1959), The Fifth Seal (1976), The Thing (1982), Edward Scissorhands (1990).
Jazz + Reggae
Set within a stylised British-Jamaican home with a focus on celebrating the culture on screen
DIRECTOR’S VISION - When discussing art, artists tend to state that it should ‘reflect the times’ being a time capsule of the decade in which it was made. This is what this film does. It takes the classic story of a family drama and a 50s SCI-FI flick and creates a new genre bending piece while highlighting current social talking points. My intention is to BROADEN the TROPES and representation that we see within BLACK BRITISH FILMS and solidify us within the SCI-FI GENRE.
The film will be submitted to Film Festivals across the UK and then distributed at a special premiere!!
Thank you so much and please share with anyone you think may be interested!!
