It is with much sorrow to inform you as our family members, friends, and colleagues that our father and devoted husband; Jose Antonio Lopez Leon passed away, Wednesday March 10th at 5:07 AM. These past few days have been filled with the utmost sadness, grief, and anger. He was detected with multiple myeloma May of 2019. Our father fought this terrible cancerous disease until his last day. He was a warrior and extremely optimistic even though the odds were against him. Our father would always speak about the future and the plans that he had once he got better. Having been married to our mom for over 50 years he said “When I am able to stand, I am going to marry you again.” Our mother Carmen Lopez was his biggest love and treasure.
There was never a day he complained about his pain. When asked how he was feeling his responses was always “I’m fine how are you?” His cancer turned into plasma cell leukemia where his body no longer produced platelets, blood and caused a stroke. His condition worsened but his attitude remained incredibly positive. We had our father at home surrounded by all his family and grandchildren that had the opportunity to see him one last time end of February. His grandchildren never called him grandad he was always “Papi”. Our father not only left behind his wife and kids but his grandkids that to all of them will always be a father.
We are angry that this disease attacked the most beautiful soul anyone had encountered. He was rushed to the hospital March 6th as he woke very fragile and weak. Even then, our father was full of jokes and kept moving his body to show us he still had the energy to continue fighting. He moved his arms like a boxer and mentioned he was ready to fight Canelo. He told my brothers “Ill punch Canelo, but Tony needs to put his cheek”. Once admitted to the hospital his brain bleed was unchanged and slowly his body began to shut down. Our father and beloved husband was never alone. He passed away surrounded by his family members. Our sister Margarita Lopez never left his side of the bed and held his hand until his last breath.
“Dad we will always remember you with smiles and laughter as that is how you always lived your life until your last day.”
We are still mourning our loss and navigating through these difficult times. Although help is not expected it is greatly needed for this unforeseen circumstance. From all our family we would like to say how grateful we are for your support. Thank you all for you time and consideration. Please help us continue sharing our fathers’ story and let it serve to help motivate you to always look at the bright side of every moment in life.
