Help Antonella's family get back on their feet

Hi, my name is Amélie Langlois.

Last August 11th, our peaceful island was hit by the worst tragedy imaginable: a little 4 years old girl fell off a boat and drowned.

Most of us here in Bocas have noticed this Brasilan dad and his family, training our kids on the football field by the airport.

I'm raising money in the hope of making things a tiny bit less painful for them, and give the chance to our beautiful Bocas community to support them and show our solidarity.

The money raised will go towards funeral expenses, family flying in from Brasil, rental, but most importantly, getting their boat fixed so that they can finally sail away and move on.

Here is their story, written by Daniela, Antonella's mom.

Hello everyone, my name is Daniela, my family and I have always dreamed of living aboard and sailing around the world. We have been planning this for a long time (since 2016, when the children were not even born yet).

After years of planning and a lot of searching, we managed to buy a boat in the year 2021, here in Bocas del Toro

The boat needed a lot of work and dedication. We worked on it for a year and eight months, struggling with labor difficulties and missing parts, but always with a smile on our face.

We worked daily on the boat, with electricity, hydraulics and others, but our main and biggest problem was the engine, which had very serious problems and did not work.

We spent 1 year and 8 months trying to fix it, we disassembled the engine twice and reassembled it, but it still wasn't enough.

The problems have been huge, but we've been overcoming them each day with the hope that soon we could take off sailing.

Unfortunately, our forces ran out a few days ago.

On the 11th of August, we had the worst experience that any human being could have, during the night, we had an accident with our daughter Antonella, only 4 years old. Within a minute that she was out of our sight, she fell into the water. The night was very dark and none of the lights were enough to find her in time. I called help from all the neighbors and after 5 minutes of searching we found her, lifeless. I write this in tears and with a broken heart, I've been reaching out for strength every day since then, but it's been really hard.

Anyone who knew her knows that our girl was spectacular, a light wherever we went. We decided to cremate her body so we can take her wherever we go. She will remain in the hearts of all of us, forever.

Currently, our house (boat) is where the accident happened and we don't have the psychological conditions to stay in that site, which is why we settled in a house in Carenero for a little while.

We need to go on our way, we don't have the strength and motivation to continue, but we need to sort things out with our engine as soon as possible and take off and move on with our lives.

Starting over without our princess will be the hardest part, but we understand the need to do it. We need to be strong for ourselves and for our son.

El pasado 11 de agosto, nuestra apacible isla se vió golpeada por la peor tragedia imaginable: una pequeña niña de 4 años se cayó de un bote y se ahogó.

La mayoría de nosotros aquí en Bocas hemos notado a este padre brasileño y su familia, entrenando a nuestros hijos en la cancha de fútbol frente al aeropuerto.

Estoy recaudando dinero con la esperanza de reducir un poquito el dolor para ellos y darle la oportunidad a nuestra hermosa comunidad de Bocas de apoyarlos y brindarles nuestra solidaridad.

El dinero recaudado se destinará a los gastos del funeral, el vuelo de la familia desde Brasil, pero lo más importante, a reparar su barco para que finalmente puedan navegar y seguir adelante.

Aquí está su historia, escrita por Daniela, la mamá de Antonella.

Hola a todos, mi nombre es Daniela, mi familia y yo siempre hemos soñado con vivir a en un barco y navegar por todo del mundo. Hemos estado planeando esto durante mucho tiempo (desde 2016, cuando los niños aún no habían nacido).

Después de años de planificación y mucha búsqueda, logramos comprar un bote en el año 2021, aquí en Bocas del Toro.

El barco necesitaba mucho trabajo y dedicación. Trabajamos en él durante un año y ocho meses, luchando con dificultades laborales y piezas faltantes, pero siempre con una sonrisa en la cara.

Trabajábamos cada dia en el barco, con electricidad, hidráulica y demás, pero nuestro principal y mayor problema era el motor, que tenía problemas muy serios y hasta el día de hoy no funciona.

Pasamos 1 año y 8 meses tratando de arreglarlo, desarmamos el motor dos veces y lo volvimos a armar, pero aun así no fue suficiente.

Los problemas han sido enormes, pero los hemos ido superando día a día con la esperanza de que pronto podamos despegar.

Desafortunadamente, nuestras fuerzas se agotaron hace unos días.

El 11 de Agosto, tuvimos la peor experiencia que un ser humano puede tener. Durante la noche, tuvimos un accidente con nuestra hija Antonella, de tan solo 4 años. En un minuto que estuvo fuera de nuestra vista, cayó al agua. La noche era muy oscura y ninguna de las luces fue suficiente para encontrarla a tiempo. Llamé ayuda a todos los vecinos y después de 5 minutos de búsqueda, la encontramos sin vida. Escribo esto llorando y con el corazón roto. He buscado fuerzas todos los días desde entonces, pero ha sido muy difícil.

Quien la conoció sabe que nuestra hija era espectacular, iluminando de su luz donde sea que íbamos. Decidimos incinerar su cuerpo para poder llevarla a donde sea que vayamos. Ella permanecerá en el corazón de todos nosotros, para siempre.

Actualmente, nuestra casa (bote) esta donde ocurrió el accidente y no tenemos las condiciones psicológicas para permanecer en ese sitio, por esa razón, nos instalamos en una casa en Carenero por un tiempo.

Necesitamos seguir nuestro camino, no tenemos fuerzas ni motivación para continuar, pero necesitamos arreglar las cosas con nuestro barco lo antes posible, despegar y seguir con nuestras vidas.

Empezar de nuevo sin nuestra princesa será la parte más difícil, pero entendemos la necesidad de hacerlo. Necesitamos ser fuertes por nosotros mismos y por nuestro hijo.
