Antiracist Top Surgery for Liis

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Liis!  I'm nonbinary.  I'm genderqueer.  I'm trans.  And I'm ready for my body to align more with how I feel.  I'm ready for gender euphoria, which is the feeling of satisfaction and joy with the congruence, or rightness, between my internal and external reality (body and gender, internal experience and outside expression).  I started taking testosterone (T) on May 11.  It's been amazing so far.  And the joy I have experienced from being on T gives me a hint about how amazing it will feel to get this surgery done.

I am scheduled for top surgery on August 27th, 2020 in San Francisco.  I will be working with a really great surgeon: Dr. Scott Mosser at the Gender Confirmation Center.  I'll be getting the procedure called buttonhole.  It's a specialized surgery that aligns with my goals and the outcome I hope for, and not just any surgeon can do it.

Because of this, my insurance considers it "out of network" and won't cover any amount.  So that leaves me paying out of pocket.  That's where you come in!  I need help!

And the antiracist part: I'm an antiracist white person.  Which means I work to act in antiracist ways in all aspects of my life.  And I seek accountability to People of Color.  In an attempt to use my privilege in an accountable way, I have increased my fundraising goal and I am committed to redirect half of what this campaign raises to Black and Brown trans fundraising efforts that have not yet met their goals.

In the spring I told myself, "I can't ask for help during covid."  Then I told myself, "I can't ask for help during uprisings and the movement for Black Lives."  Another reality is that as a white person, I have access to a broad network of other white people with wealth, a thing that not everyone has.  Instead of only reaching out to this network to help me, I am committed to spreading the wealth that this network can provide.  I am committed to pass it on in solidarity with people with less systemic power in the U.S.

Give what you can.  Give what feels meaningful to you.  And I will give half to Black and Brown folks in return.

Thank you.  So very much.  This means a lot.
