Dogs and Cats of Antigua , a 501(c)3 rescue, was initially created to network like-minded dog lovers across the island of Antigua to better the plight of our stray population through rescue, veterinary care, and rehoming. From this very small and simple intent, the organization has grown enormously in Antigua and internationally. Dogs and Cats of Antigua (DACOA) now has numerous partners and volunteers across the United States and Canada.
Since the inception in 2015, over 3,300 dogs and cats have been rehomed locally and overseas. Before Covid, the organization would rehome our adult dogs to the U.S. and Canada through cargo service on commercial airlines. When commercial cargo service was no longer an option, DACOA chartered cargo jets and transported our dogs to their overseas homes.
Antigua has an appalling stray population problem and a very small pool of available homes, whereas, in the U.S. and Canada, we have found homes for our dogs. Without this lifeline, our dogs would have very little chance of a long and happy life with loving families. As the owner of a very special rescue dog from Antigua, Nala Gracie, I know first-hand how much joy these beautiful souls can bring to families.
We are hoping to raise $10,000 to fly 35 dogs from Antigua to Miami and then transport them by land to their forever homes in Miami, New York, New Jersey, and Boston. We hope you will find it in your heart to donate to our cause and share our message. With your support, we can give these dogs a second chance at long and prosperous lives.
