A little bit about Anthony

Anthony, a cherished local of the Lytham St Annes community, has always been a beacon of independence and communal spirit. His life, now deeply rooted in Lancashire, has been marked by a dedication to good, honest work and a close-knit circle of friends and family.

A passionate supporter of Manchester United and an avid American Football fan, Anthony's leisure time often revolves around sports. His fondness for simple pleasures, be it dining out, enjoying a fine cup of coffee, or savouring the occasional whisky, reflects his zest for life. This enthusiasm, coupled with the treasured moments he shares with friends and family, vividly illustrates his deep involvement and joy in both his community and personal life.

His medical journey has tested his resilience, but Anthony's spirit shines even in the face of adversity. This campaign supports Anthony's recovery, helping him return to his beloved activities. Your support can rekindle his connection with the passions and community he holds dear, assisting in his journey to regain independence and embrace life's joys.

What happened - Timeline

Anthony's journey to recovery and independence began unexpectedly when he suffered a collapse, leading to his hospitalisation and a profound change in his life. Now, with the loss of the use of his lower body, Anthony faces new challenges in mobility and independence.

Timeline

Early April 2023 saw him grappling with significant health challenges, due in part to a lengthy hospitalisation, necessitating extensive medical attention and further care. This involved rigorous medical assessments over the following months. This highlighted concerns about his reduced mobility and the need for specialised care.

In May, he was given the positive news that a place had opened for him to move to a more rehabilitation-driven hospital. There were a few complications with moving him to a new unit due to his chest and breathing difficulties, but with the help of his family, he was able to begin improving his physical and mental condition.

Unfortunately, we received an update in late May that he wouldn’t be moving to Southport due to a lack of medical support at the rehab unit there. He would need to stay in Salford Hospital for continued rehabilitation.

By July, Anthony had reached a pivotal moment in his recovery as he was moved to Trafford General Hospital's Neuro Rehabilitation Unit.

Despite this positive step, the journey remained complex, and by August, it was clear that an even more intensive rehabilitation program was required. The involvement in planning and implementing rehabilitation exercises illustrated the families' unwavering support for Anthony and his determination.

A crucial development occurred in August, during a meeting with Anthony's healthcare team when plans for some time outside of hospital were put forward. This marked a crucial step in his journey towards independence.

Then, on August 25th, Anthony experienced a monumental day - his first day out of the hospital in 10 months. This was not just a breath of fresh air but a glimpse into the possibilities of a more independent life.

The end of the year brought mixed developments. While there were positive signs of progress, Anthony's health took an unexpected turn for the worse in late December, this necessitated his transfer to a more specially equipped hospital. This setback highlighted the ongoing challenges in his recovery.

Our goal
Our primary goal with this fundraiser is to provide Anthony with a specialised wheelchair. This chair is essential for enhancing his mobility, safety and, above all, his independence, particularly given his fluctuating health and increased disability. To Anthony, this represents a means of movement and hope for a more active and self-reliant future.

Your Role in Anthony's Journey:
Your contribution can be a powerful catalyst in Anthony's journey towards a life of greater independence and joy. Every donation, big or small, directly impacts Anthony's ability to navigate life more freely and safely.

Cost Breakdown
  • All-Terrain Wheelchair Purchase: A significant portion of the funds will be allocated for buying a quality all-terrain wheelchair. For instance, the Magic Mobility Extreme X8 Powerchair is priced at approximately £13,500. This chair is exceptionally well-suited for varied terrains, ensuring that Anthony can navigate different environments comfortably and safely.
  • Customisation and Assessments: Given Anthony's unique needs, the wheelchair might require additional customisation. This could include tailor-made seating, control systems, or adaptations for his specific physical requirements.
  • Delivery and Installation: We'll also set aside funds for the wheelchair's delivery and professional installation. This ensures the chair is correctly assembled and adjusted to meet Anthony's needs.
  • Training and Support: It's essential that Anthony receives comprehensive training on using and maintaining the new wheelchair. This might involve sessions with a mobility expert to guide him in manoeuvring, safety, and routine upkeep.

Your support means more than just financial assistance; it's a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of community.

Together, we can help Anthony navigate this challenging chapter and embrace the joys of life once again.
