Anthony's Return to the Motherland
Donation protected
On March 15, 2009, my older brother and I left my mother in Ghana to come to the United States to live the "American Dream". Knowing all that it took for my dad to bring us here, I was determined to make something of my life. I kept my head in my books, I never took breaks from school and I always told myself, "I'll go back when I have time". Now, I am realizing that I haven't seen my mother's face, in person, for over 12 years. We haven't seen each other grow, she has never seen me act, and she missed one of the most monumental accomplishments of my life, getting my M.F.A. in Acting from UC San Diego this past March. If there's one thing this insane last year has taught me, it's that life is too, too short and I can't make excuses that hold me back from living my life and expressing my love and appreciation for people, especially my mother. I am making time.
This fall, I am returning to Ghana to show my mother the person I've become. I miss her so much. I miss my home, I miss the smell of fufu and palm nut soup, I miss the smell of the ocean whenever I'd visit my grandmother, I miss the heavy rain that pours during the rainy season and I miss being surrounded by my people. I need this trip, badly. It's one of the most important trips I'll ever make and I need your help to make it happen.
I am asking for donations with any little amount you can. Half of this money is going towards plane tickets. It usually costs around $1,400 to fly round trip to Accra and back. The other half will be going toward setting up travel expenses, paying for the Visa application, buying gifts for my mom and other family members, and making sure I have enough to have a full experience back in Ghana. I plan to be there for a month a half. I have been saving up for this trip as well. I am also taking any jobs I can as an actor, teacher (cuz I gotta use this MFA y'all), acting coach, self-tape reader, and I am also a yoga instructor. Please feel free to reach out with any inquiries. I cannot wait for what this trip will mean for me and my family. Again, any little counts. Please feel free to share this with your loved ones.
Much love and appreciation,
Anthony.
