My dad, Tony (Anthony) Dennis, has been a beloved member of the community in both Ontario and British Columbia.
He was well known in BC for his love of football: first as a standout with SFU, then in his professional CFL career with Saskatchewan, Calgary and BC, and finally coaching youth with the White Rock Titans.
Over two decades ago, he overcame the odds by surviving a devastating stroke that almost took his life at the age of 41. Using his fierce will and independence, he persisted to defy the odds, learning to walk again and rebuild his life to continue with the activities he loved, just in a different way.
Since then, he has built himself quite the beautiful life and made friends everywhere, walking for hours each day along the river near his home in Windsor, Ontario and taking the bus all over the city, making friends everywhere he went due to his incredibly friendly and outgoing nature.
Just before Christmas, he fell gravely ill and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with multiple organ failure. He has been hospitalized and on life support since then. It has been heartbreaking.
We lost him today
My dad was an incredibly stubborn and independent person who valued his ability to do everything himself. He was intent on LIVING life, not just existing, and that legacy will remain with him to the end and live through us.
My dad unfortunately left this world without a will or any life insurance. Sadly, his health conditions made him uninsurable. As result, we-his children- are not only burdened by the profound loss of our beloved father, but also the overwhelming expenses associated with end of life and funeral arrangements.
We are appealing to the public, as we know how many of you knew and loved him, and asking for support for funeral expenses and memorial expenses. We are also hoping to keep his memory and impact alive by way of future bursary or scholarship for up and coming athletes. This is something he would have loved to do because one of the things that has persisted throughout his life has been his absolute love for football and all sports, as well as his desire to help others.
If you have the ability to contribute to help with the expenses associated with funeral and memorial services and bereavement, it would be greatly appreciated and a beautiful final gift to an incredible man.
Thank you all ❤️
If you have any memories of my dad that you would like to share, we would love to hear them.
We know he made friends everywhere, so many that there are likely MANY stories from people that we will never know.
He had an incredible ability to connect with people and he will live on through the memories of others.
