Anthony Scarlett

Don protégé
4/11/2021
Hi Everyone.  I wanted to give an update on Anthony.  I went by for a visit today.  He has made tremendous progress on his recovery.  He no longer needs a wheelchair and is gaining strength everyday.  He is still attending out patient physical therapy several times a week and with Collette’s help, he does his daily exercises.  He is so very grateful to his friends and family for their support and prayers.  Anthony is determined to be back on the court sometime this summer or early Fall.  If you would like to continue to help out, I have a virtual meal sign up sheet on the website MealTrain.  Thank you again for the friendship and generosity that you have shown to our friend Anthony.
Our friend, tennis pro, Anthony Scarlett, recently suffered a stroke and is hospitalized as I write this.  Based on what I have been told, Anthony’s recovery will be long and include weeks in the hospital and months of rehabilitation.  Anthony has worked at Midtown Athletic Club in Rochester, NY for nearly 15 years.  During that time, Anthony has touched so many lives with his upbeat, energetic and infectious passion for tennis and life.    His individualized attention to both young and old, beginner and seasoned player makes you feel like your ability to play tennis can far exceed your actual skill level.  If you have ever had the opportunity  to watch him interact and teach kids how to play tennis at Midtown, you would know why parents call him “the child whisper”.

This anecdote as told by a mom whose son was in Anthony’s class.

Her 8 year old son had to write an essay for school about why they were so lucky..

Here is what he had to say:

“Another reason why I’m lucky is that I’m good at tennis too.  In the beginning, I didn’t know anybody.  My teacher’s name is Anthony.  He’s nice, funny and a good teacher.  He thinks I’m the best in the class.  I also have really good backhands.  Tennis is my favorite sport in the world.”

His mom writes in part, “...for a kid that has always struggled with self confidence, tennis with Anthony has been such a gift.”

Those of us that know Anthony are eager to help him in anyway that we can.  We decided one of the ways to help, at least with the financial stress, is to raise money for hospital bills, rehabilitation and lost wages.  Until Anthony is out of the hospital, money raised will go towards his monthly bills including rent, car payments and insurance payments.  Once Anthony is able to take care of his finances, all funds donated will be deposited in his account and will go towards lost wages.  Please donate if you can and if you are unable too, please keep Anthony in your thoughts and prayers
