On December 12th, 2016, Anthony was serverly burned during a house fire. He managed to put the fire out, save the house and save me, his girlfriend Sarah, but in the process received first, second and third degree burns across 23% of his body.
Fortuantely, he was just a couple hours away from UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, one of the best places for burn treatment in the country. He suffered through the worst pain he'd ever experienced in his young life, but the love and care he received at Shands and his determined spirit kept him fighting.
Just over a week later, Anthony was discharged and able to go home, but his road to recovery was no where near over. Daily tasks he once took for granted, like walking and showering, were suddenly challenging goals.
Now a month after the accident, Anthony has started to regain control of his life. He's grateful to know he'll eventually make a full recovery and life will go back to normal. But as the medical bills begin to stack up, he's worrying more about how he'll ever pay them off than his own recovery.
Anthony is a 21-year-old, full-time college student and part-time associate at Publix. Prior to the incident he financially supported himself, but has now been out of work for over a month. He wants so greatly to continue on his path of achieving his dreams and knows this is only a speed bump.
If you've had the pleasure of meeting Anthony, you know how great of a heart he has. You know he's a humble man who would do anything for anyone. His easy-going yet silly nature makes it impossible for him to not get along with everyone he meets. I have no doubt this man will someday achieve great things, but at this time in his life he needs help.
The love and support he's received from loved ones as well as strangers has kept his heart full through this challenging journey. Your prayers, kind words and positive thoughts have helped him defy odds and will continue to do so.
