Anthony "Busta" Johnson's Retirement Gift
Donation protected
I have some sad news to share with everyone. Busta has informed me that he has decided to retire. The reason is that his kidneys are failing him, and he doesn't feel like he is able to make it through the rest of the semester.
We will be working on a celebration and something to commemorate Busta's legacy. This was his 30th year as the Chef of SAE, and we would like to ask you to join in donating to his retirement gift and medical expenses.
In addition to this retirement gift, I wanted to ask our brotherhood if anyone could help with finding a kidney transplant. The waiting list is close to five years, and his doctor is not confident he will make it that long. He therefore is looking everywhere to find a kidney donation.
Any and all donations are very much appreciated and will help him immensely with his medical bills and other expenses.
From the moment I entered this brotherhood, I was told Busta was the single most important person in it. Over the past four years, I've grown to understand why this statement was repeated so much. Our goal as a fraternity is to create a social union of men. One in which people of different backgrounds, interests, and aspirations come together to form something larger than themselves, to create bonds to last a lifetime, to grow and flourish as we become adults.
Busta, to me, falls squarely in the center of this goal. Almost as the sun pulls in the planets around it, Busta pulls in all our brothers to sit down together and eat. The fear of a fraternity is that it will devolve from a brotherhood to a collection of separate friend groups vaguely tied together in name. Busta felt like the antithesis of this, a constant force pulling at every nook and cranny of our brotherhood. Drawing in even the least involved, most isolated brothers to the house. Keeping us connected to each other's lives.
Our house is but a shell in which we come together to make memories, stories, and bonds. And no one added more life, more energy, and identity to it than Busta. His retirement is a day I hoped would never come. But all good things eventually come to an end. I am hopeful that Bryant will bond with us as his father has, helping us pave our future.
