Our nephew, Anthony Jerome Merricks was born on Monday, March 23, 1998 in Decatur, Georgia, the only child of Larry and Susan (Sue) Merricks. Anthony passed away on May 18, 2021 at the age of 23, a victim of gun violence.
Anthony was a thoughtful and loving son. He was a much-adored nephew and cousin with the nickname “Antman”. Anthony was named after his uncle, Anthony “Tony” McCrary. Tony’s life also ended too soon from a car accident at the age of 28.
Anthony was sweet, smart, kind, charismatic, inquisitive, artistic and funny. He loved his extended family, and they loved him tremendously. There was nothing better than making Anthony laugh; when he was little, we loved tickling him. Thanks to his Mom, Dad, and Uncle Tony, Anthony had a unique style and enjoyed showing that style in pictures. Our family has many professional photos of him wearing an “Anthony Outfit,” which we treasure. Anthony enjoyed playing all kinds of video games, but the family’s favorite game was “Who Can Beat Anthony?” Anthony’s dad is from Orlando, FL and Anthony loved going to Disney World and Universal Studio each summer.
Since a little boy, he loved animals, especially dogs. He followed this passion and had been working for 2years at Barking Hound Village for two years at the time of his passing. His employer said “Anthony was as good as they come as both a person and teammate.Anthony was a bright star to all who knew and met him. A gentle spirit with a caring heart, a beautiful smile, and wonderful laugh.
The family is heartbroken and devastated by this horrible tragedy of his life taken.
We asking asking for your prayers first and foremost for his parents, Larry and Sue as they struggle to accept their new reality.
We are also requesting assistance with funeral expenses, memorial costs, and other immediate needs. Funds given will go directly to Anthony's parents.
We thank God for your prayers and generosity. May he continue to bless you and keep you. Antman's Family
