Anthony Logan is a lively 28 month old little boy who loves trains, buses, French fries, coco melon and romping around in his cowboy boots!
Recently our sweet boy was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. Last week his parents Rachel and Todd noticed some blood in his urine and took him in right away to see the doctor. They ran some tests and sent him home with the idea of a possible infection and a future follow up. A few days later things got worse, they took him back into the hospital where they ran several scans. On August 5 they received the devastating news. There was a large mass on his right kidney that had metastasized. In addition to the cancer spreading to his lymph nodes they also found three spots on his lung. On August 7 Anthony underwent a seven hour surgery to remove the mass, his entire right kidney and some of the lymph nodes. To give you an idea of what this little guy had in his body, it was a mass in comparison to a 16 ounce bottle of water.
Anthony did well with surgery. He is recovering and is such a resilient little boy. The biopsy results returned positive for Wilms Tumor. Though it has a good prognosis for treatment, this is still the beginning phase of their battle. During surgery, they discovered the mass had ruptured. Anthony will need to undergo radiation due to this rupture. He will be put under anesthesia for them to do simulation and pin point where they need to treat. He will start radiation on the 21st and undergo this 7 times. Each time he will have to be put under anesthesia. In addition to radiation Anthony will need chemotherapy for the spots on his lungs and affected lymph nodes. He will start Chemo this Thursday and will continue this for the following 6-9 months. They are both very different treatments and each will carry their own set of risks and side effects.
Anthony has a twin sister, Mila as well as older brothers still living at home. Todd and Rachel both have full time careers, and as you can imagine, they will be needing to take extended time off to care around the clock for Anthony.
If you can spare anything for this sweet boy, and his family, please all is appreciated. Whether it’s a dollar or 100. Every penny adds up! Your words of encouragement and positive energy will undoubtedly provide comfort and strength too. Let us come together as a community, united in love and compassion, to uplift him and his family during this difficult time! Any support at whatever level you are able is much appreciated. Your contributions will provide critical support in multiple way, taking financial burden off the family’s shoulders so they can focus on getting little Anthony healthy again! The battle may be long but Anthony is a fighter and will come out of this strong!
