Hi, my name is Bea and I am raising funds for an important scientific expedition to Antarctica in January 2027. I have experience researching disease ecology of Northern Elephant Seals in California and am turning this experience into an Antarctic research expedition. For 2 weeks, me and a team are embarking on a voyage across the Drake Passage in order to collect data on both seabirds and marine mammals in the Southern Ocean. Primarily we are focusing on polar ecology and collecting focal-follow observations of penguins as well as doing transect sampling to record whale, dolphin and seal sightings. Transect sampling will also be used to collect seabird data. This project will add to 15 years worth of historical data from the same area, providing a hugely beneficial dataset to investigate the effect of climate change on populations and how their distributions change over time. An expedition of this magnitude and difficulty creates a huge cost barrier. The estimated cost per person is ~£10,000. That's where you come in, in order to pull this off, your donations are invaluable! Any donation will go to directly conserving this fascinating ecosystem and research into both the human impact on Antarctica and the animals themselves.
Why donate to my fund?
- To further scientific research into this at-risk ecosystem
- I have experience researching and conducting fieldwork of large marine mammals already
- I am passionate about the marine ecosystem and will thrive on this expedition
- If you love marine mammals and seabirds as much as I do!
