Antalya, Turkey Street Cat & Dog Food & Veterinary
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Arda Buharali. I lived in the United States for 40 years and still have a residence here. However, I moved to sunny Antalya Turkey. The city of Antalya allows cats and dogs to roam free. The municipality distributes some food to some areas, but does not provide much shelter or medical care. Myself and 6-7 neighbors are feeding and helping a couple dogs and a fluctuating number of 60-70 cats around us. We also help any other cats and dogs that are further away while we are passing by.
We try to find them homes when we can, but it is difficult. There are so many streets cats and dogs, anytime someone wants to adopt one they can grab any one of a dozen within 200 feet.
Our expenses: We neuter females, yearly vaccinations, parasite medications, canned, dry, cooked food, treats, cat houses, carriers, blankets, bowls, brushes, phosphorescent safety collars, necessary tooth removal and medical procedures.
This all adds up to quite a lot of money when you are dealing with as many cats as we are. It has also left us with difficult decisions to make on how much is each cats life worth when medical expenses come up.
Many of us helping are retired except for myself and a few others. We spend a lot of time with these animals. I distribute canned food, water, clean the bowls, and brush in the morning. Pamela provides dinner in the evenings at the nearby park.
Our number #1 priority is to neuter females to reduce birth rates. Then, #2 is food and medical care. A few neighbors joked that if we neuter all the females there won’t be any cats left. However, this is unlikely as cats come from other areas and there are always some we cannot capture.
We will be providing pictures, names and videos of the animals we are helping.
