Hi, my name is Hazel Mantle.
I am a UK based animal volunteer and help fundraising at a local dog charity I also spend my holidays volunteering at shelters abroad. Most notably my Turkish friends shelter in Antalya.
I am fundraising to help my friends Birkan and Ulku Karaduman provide tick, flea and worming treatments to every single animal in their shelter, in the mountains north of Antalya.
My friends provide care for around 35 ex street dogs and the same number of cats.
The shelter is also a no kill sanctuary so any animals that can’t find a forever home will always be safe.
They also feed and care for animals that have been abandoned in the local forests.
Due to lack of funds they often have to make difficult choices between routine treatments, food and vet care.
My aim is to relieve them of the financial burden of the routine treatments which will give all the animals more of a fighting chance of better health and less needs for expensive vet care.
If I can raise £350 I believe it should be enough to treat all the animals this Autumn. If I can raise £700 it will be enough to treat all the animals for a second time in the Spring.
If I can raise more I will use it to buy tarpaulins to give the dogs more shelter from the sun in the summer and rain in the winter.
I am also hoping to gather part used treatments locally in my area which can be sent over to be used for the stray animals living in the forests and local villages that have so far been lucky enough to survive the culling.
If you can donate just £5 it will be enough to treat 1 dog for the rest of the year and could potentially save their life.
I will provide documentation of everything I purchase and will try to give regular updates.
100% of everything I raise will go to the animals. I will personally pay for any shipping costs out of my own money, although I am hoping that I will be able to find a volunteer willing to take them all out for me.
There are always volunteering opportunities over at the shelter with accommodation and food provided, including airport pick up.
If you have at least a weeks spare time and would love to help the animals they especially need people with building skills who can do any form of building, electrical, plumbing or carpentry work.
If you can groom dogs or just pick up poop and give them company you will be welcomed with open arms.
