Answers for Amanda

Many of you will recognize Amanda & her family. You will recognize them because she is a RN at our hospital. Cody works at the car dealership in town. They are part of the local Kin Club. Their children are involved in cadets, dance, girl guides and many other activities. They have made Wadena their home since the day they moved here.
Shortly before the above family photo was taken, my beautiful friend, Amanda Morrissette & her family received some of the most unexpected and devastating news a family can ever receive.
Amanda, 37 years old, mother of 3 amazing kids, wife, daughter, sister, friend, nurse, was diagnosed with cancer.
As shocking and unbelievable as the news was, Amanda & Cody tackled it head on and began the whirlwind of consultations, tests, scans & biopsy to find the answers they would need in order to go forward with treatments.
However, through all of the testing it has been discovered Amanda's cancer is very rare.
Neuroendocrine Tumors (NET's) account for only 2% of all cancers in Canada. To complicate things further, Amanda's case is not like one doctors in SK have ever dealt with before. It is not behaving the way they would expect. The fact that the oncologist has never treated someone as young as her with NET's tells you this is not a typical case in any way. Because of the rarity & complexity of Amanda's case, doctors are unable to recommend a treatment plan at this time. They need more tests and more time to get more answers.
Waiting without answers or treatment is not something ANYONE should have to go through. That is why Amanda & Cody have made the decision to travel to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where the testing she requires is more readily available without long wait times and will lead doctors to the answers they need to start an individualized treatment plan so she can beat this.
She WILL beat this and I am asking for your help in her journey. This is our chance to show this amazing family our support and love as they enter the fight of their lives. There is going to be significant costs for this family to absorb. As strong as they are, even the strongest people need their community to lift them up sometimes.
