Anshul's Milestone Birthday - August'21

Hi Everyone,

 

First, I wanted to thank you for celebrating this milestone birthday with me. Even a tenth of this time was unfathomable when I was first diagnosed with Spina Bifida. Yet, here I am. One of the more fortunate ones.

 

Many of you have asked about gifts for this birthday. I am blessed with all that I have. What I would like is for you to donate to this non-profit instead. I sit on their board. The past year with COVID has been tough for many non-profits. But even more so for smaller ones like the Spina Bifida Association. Every little bit will make an impact.

 

Spina Bifida is the most common permanently disabling birth defect that is associated with life. Approximately 166,000 individuals in the United States have Spina Bifida. Many, many more where I come from. It’s a type of neural tube defect (NTD) that occurs when a baby’s neural tube fails to develop or close properly – the literal meaning for Spina Bifida is “split spine.” Typically occurring within the first 28 days of pregnancy while the neural tube is forming, Spina Bifida often occurs before a woman knows she is pregnant.

 

More information about Spina Bifida Association: Established in 1973, the Spina Bifida Association (SBA) is the only national, voluntary health agency dedicated to enhancing the lives of those living with Spina Bifida and preventing the birth defect in future generations. SBA fulfills its mission through research, advocacy, education, and support.
