One more Puerto Rican midwife

Hello Family and Friends!
It's been a long, amazing, and very hard journey to become a midwife. It's been a lot of sleep deprivation, putting my performance art on the side, and a long isolation here in the desert. I've had to contend with bereaucracy and racism in the midwifery community and the certification board.  Im still glad that this path called to me I had become a stronger woman. We moved to El paso 3 years ago and I graduated from Maternidad La Luz in 2015 and since then I'v been completing a residency program here. Meanwhile I've also travelled to Mexico and had the honor to learn from an indegenious Mayan midwife. I work in the highest volume birth center in the country on the Mexican border serving the most amazing families and the strongest women I have ever known in my life and I am thankful to have had them as my teachers.  I am proud to be woman of color/ Carribean, there's little access to midwifery care for many black and brown families and we have the highest rate of maternal death in the entire country. I also want to care for queer families and women with sexual abuse traumas. Now I am crossing the border providing care and offering homebirth to families in ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua Mexico. Im also going into Paloma Mexico  with the group of midwives to offer postpartum care and to empower a new generation of local women by training them as doulas and to provide maternal health and education and soon I will be moving with my family to Puerto Rico to care for my people and be a midwife preceptor. I am a licensed midwife, a certified professional midwife, a certified lactation counselor, and soon to become licensed in California as a midwife and as a certified maternal health educator too.

I am creating this gofundme page to help finance my birth equipment I will need to provide care to my wonderful clients and to cover the cost of a portion of my licensing-certifications fees. I'm hoping to fill my birth kit with things like an oxygen supply, suturing kit, IV fluid, herbs, meds, water birth tub, doppler and other necessities. Any donation amount will help a lot and your investment would go to help to give superb care to deserving families. You'd also be helping to ensure that women  birth in safety and respect and that each baby has a safe start in life with love. This is a human right.

Gracias!
